We are planning to release a free version of our audio editor Acoustica (Acoustica Basic Edition) in the near future and are looking for beta testers. The free version includes the same basic editing as the bigger versions, VST and DirectX support, effect chains and ASIO support.
UPDATE: Acoustica Basic Edition has been officially released - thanks for all your valuable feedback!
You can download the software here (Windows only): http://www.acondigital.com/software/Aco ... c500us.exe

Hi,
first impression is very nice. However, I tried to do a fade, but I get a message about demo expiration (maybe because I earlier demoed the full product?). I guess this should be removed...
cheers, akj

Hi!
Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the feedback!
That was a flaw in the license handling which is now fixed. You can download the update from http://www.acondigital.com/software/Aco ... us_b48.exeAKJ wrote:I tried to do a fade, but I get a message about demo expiration (maybe because I earlier demoed the full product?).

I generally like it. Nice clean interface.
Is a portable version possible? (no installation, settings in the same folder)
I noticed when selecting a VST from the top menu the window takes exclusive control, which is not ideal.
When selecting them from the effects chain it's better. But when hitting that play button down there the selection on the waveform gets stuck on the selected region.. not sure if it's intended.
The 'play looped' behaves a bit differently from what I'm used to, but it might not be bad..
edit: Also fullscreen doesn't work properly with taskbar on top. Using Windows 7, BTW. A bit of the lower edge gets cut off..

Same here. Although the plugins will then work, but it doesn't show all of them. For example Reaplugs are missing.reusenoise wrote:It will crash on scanning vst folder

Acoustica is a great editor. I'm glad a free version will be relased (even if i'm already a Premium version user).
The new version of Premium crashes on my computer too (Vista 32 bit) while scanning for new plugins, btw.

Hi!
The new build (49) is available here: http://www.acondigital.com/software/Aco ... us_b49.exe
Stian
Thanks, I really appreciate that! Thanks also to all testers for your valuable feedback. Some VST plug-ins apparently causes the VST scanning in Acoustica to crash, so I have prepared a new build where the scanning is done in a separate process. That way Acoustica and the scanning will continue even when compatibility problems causes the scan process to crash.sinkmusic wrote:Acoustica is a great editor. Hi Ermi,
I didn't really comment on your feedback, because I initially focused on the VST issues (which seemed the most severe), so here I go:

Thanks! Less registry usage is a long-term goal, but at time being, Acoustica uses Microsoft COM to a large extent which is highly dependent on the registry.ermi wrote:I generally like it. Nice clean interface.

As you say, the effect chain is the tool to use if you don't want the modal dialog box. I didn't quite understand what you mean by "stuck on the selected region", though?ermi wrote:I noticed when selecting a VST from the top menu the window takes exclusive control, which is not ideal.

You are right, I can reproduce that and will try to get it fixed ASAP.ermi wrote:Also fullscreen doesn't work properly with taskbar on top. Using Windows 7, BTW. A bit of the lower edge gets cut off..

I meant to say that once a region is selected it will play/loop only that, even if you then (while it's playing) try to select or place the cursor on anther area of the waveform.stian wrote:As you say, the effect chain is the tool to use if you don't want the modal dialog box. Hi Ermi,

Stian
Thanks for the clarification. The behaviour was actually intended as it is supposed to mimic the preview button in the apply dialog.ermi wrote:I meant to say that once a region is selected it will play/loop only that, even if you then (while it's playing) try to select or place the cursor on anther area of the waveform.

Thanks for this freeware editor!
Interface has comfortable and nice look'n'feel.
But I see the problem with VST plugins, that try to resize it's GUI. For example, I can not use DDMF NoLimits in 'Advanced' mode.
