I left out some with low amounts or demos of commercial banks.

I know this is old, but i want to get it to the front of the forum again.
I was just searching about the best free banks
and i think these guys are really deserving to credit them.
My favs are:
Zebra Food by Menno Meijer
Zebra Vision and Zebra 4U- Mcnoone
MK free patches MKastrup
Flare - runray (Nick Moritz)
and not on the list but:
Bronto Scorpio 20 freebies, freebank, Untamed Zebra
3ee - Winter Free, + more
Not to mention the commercial demos like
Arksun

I think it's quite difficult (/ unfair) to name a specific "favourite" bank.
In my case, more important than an "absolute" quality of a soundbank, is
its usability, which may depend on the projects I'm doing.
So, while i often take sounds from Zebra Vision and Zebra Food as starting points (i usually tweak
the sounds) i have a project (film), where some sounds of the Miroslav Herman SFXXL bank do an incredibly
awesome job.
I have to mention that I really like the two banks i bought so far, i.e. the Arksun and the Winter bank.

I'm pretty partial to Black and White and Red 
...but I voted for Jack Solium's Z2 bank. His patches are what convinced me to buy Zebra (and the aphexoid patch from the original Zebra2 presets).

You are perfectly right Arrested Developer!
Somehow unfair to judge banks.
But if we talk about them, we can get other opinions,
like now i'm already interested about Miroslav Herman,
and the Jack Solium's Z2 bank!

Wow! 2 people voted for Black and White and Red? Thanks whoever you are. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I think there can be all sorts of motivations for voting in a poll like this. I chose my favorite for nostalgic reasons. With Zebra, I almost always start with an init patch these days, but I still like to check out what other people are doing.
I don't think this has to be a competition. For me it's just nice to know that some people have appreciated my work.
