What the heck, bout time for one of these. With all the choices we have, just wondering what are some of your favorites. I'm talking about individual amps, not whole software programs. I know these things can change from day to day, but here's mine at the moment in no particular order

Amplitube 3 American Tube clean 1(Super Reverb). Simple and plain in a good way.
Lepou Hybrit
Guitar Rig 5 Pro Hot Plex. Suprising because I used to hate the way Guitar Rig sounded.
TH2 Randall T2
Amplitube 3 Thunderverb

And I really liked that Duke amp when I demoed S-Gear.

IL Hardcore

Simul Analog Twin is among the very best producing something phat and nice sounding. The Marshall is also quite useful. They are free if they are still out there - but mono.

Played around plenty with Izotope Trash which has endless tweak abilities. 100 types of dist you can combine two and two, and about 50 cabinet simulations(box models) which also has a decent two mike setup you can create a nice room for the guitar and of top of that reverb options.

And one I haven't tried but is really curious about is Magix Vandal which is modelled like the Simul Analog ones as true components.

But if to incorporate some hardware I ran a pedal Damange Control Womanizer(still use it) to phatten sound and then use Box Models in Trash to make it sound like a true miked cabinet.

Let's not forget the really nice amp/cabinet/basic effects suite by AcmeBarGig. Shred 1.6 is a really nice bundle. Nice room/mic placement simulation. Decent cabinet IRs. Gotta love the 70s amp sounds and the nice "Tweed-style" head. 5 heads, lots of cabinets. Probably the BEST free amp suite available.

It goes without saying that Poulin's stuff is absolutely stellar. Personally, I sometimes use the LeXTAC amp in clean and/or 'blue' crunch modes. Combined with Poulin's LeCab and some RedWirez IRs . . . . 'nuff said.

Yeah, yeah, I know; the metal heads and hard rocks folks already know that Poulin's amp sims are excellent, but not many know that a person can get a really, really nice warm clean tone happening with the LeXTAC head. I use the RedWirez "Roland JC-120" IRs in LeCab with this amp in the clean channel. It's a really, really, warm rich tone. Still lots of highs, but very warm. Much like a Roland JC-120. After all, clean doesn't have to be "Fenderish" sounding.

Tone is personal preference but this one "reacted" best as I play, almost like real.

Amplitube, Guitar Rig, and JamVox...

Amplitube for an accurate Fender sound.
Guitar Rig for effects and heavy distortion.
JamVox has pretty amazing overdrive tones and all around perfect presets.

By now, I've collected quite an impressive amount of AT3 cabinets and just about all of the mics, but somehow they just won't sound right together.
There's always this surreal harshness in the tone, something sharp and spiky that can't really be removed with an EQ. Very strange.

So I just bypass AT3's cabinet section and use ReaVerb to load cab impulse WAVs, a massive upgrade to the realism of the tone.

But actually I'm just finishing work on my self-made Isolation Cabinet, in a few days or maybe weeks time I'll be playing back AT3 over an external power amp into that Iso Cab and recording it again, just to see how that sounds.

Scuffham S-gear is the ampsim i have been waiting for, sounds good and feels like a real amp.

Another fan of AcmeBarGig, Poulin, iZotope Trash, and the Simulanalog stuff here. Also fond of Ronald Passion's stuff, especially his Bass Preamp. Slayer 2 (in fx mode) gets a lot of use here as well.

Just wondering why no one mentions AmpLion Pro here (I bought it some time ago). Isn't it that good or don't you know it?

in your host.
