So I built an enhancer, and I think it works great for clarifying parts in the mix without being damaging. It's called "Clarity", and is available here -

It uses phase shifting to clarify the audio signal. The "stages" control determines how many phase shifting networks to route the audio through (1 or 2), and the "full phase" control allows you to add the full phase vst effect into the processing as well. Full Phase is somewhat of an expansion effect.

Set it to 1 stage, full phase off, and the mix at about 75% wet and you'll get a very light clarification of the audio.
