I did consider this but I didn't like the negative in the name on a button that lights up, I want to keep it in the positive sense, and a button that says "self-osc" clearly is no good either since pressing it doesn't make the filter go into self oscillation, you have to adjust the resonance to do that.

I don't see nothing wrong with it to be honest.
The last option was the worst IMO. I hate three letter acronyms except LFO, VCA, VCF, OSC, MOD etc Smile

Great, thanks for the vote.

i'd just invert it, as in i'd like a button called "self-osc" that has to be depressed to remove the resonance limit.

+1 to that Smile

well the button doesn't make the filter self oscillate, so I'm think it would be a bit confusing labelling it like that. It could be self-oscable, but I'm not about to make up words for the interface Smile

Thanks for the vote on the technically correct names. I was going to have the TLA names around a circuit knob since they are small, but I may have to make it a combo box type thing embedded in a scope type screen.

quick additional thoughts: i'd gladly see a feature of "res boost +12dB", which i'm sure would be usable, at least with Sallen Key algos. it could be placed on "res limit" control as one of the states...
i think poetic naming of algorithms, in the vein of "treadplate" for Mesa DR emulations in eg. Line6 products would go well in a Cytomic plugin. at least i cannot make it fit mentally, in my head Andy's work is all about technical accuracy Smile
(poetically, the res control could have 3 states: dull, normal, insane Wink )

Thanks for the great suggestion about having 3 resonance states. The tweak head in me likes it, but the practical side of me thinks it's a bit too much for this product, perhaps on a synth product it would be a better fit.

andy you did an incredible job so far..
you done the filters and they sound like the real deal, you done the envelopes, you done the lfos , you done the FM implementation (so far the best sounding of all in software! no alias but still retaining all those sparkling high frequencies).....
if u just add 3 oscillators (just standard perfect shape oscillators) i would preorder it right now and i bet many others would too.
a synth please!!!

I am glad this product will have this feature because I am one of those guys who hates self oscillation even on my analog synths...

I'd simply call it "safe".

Could I please get some help naming a couple of things in The Drop?

1) I like 'safe', but I think there could be a good graphical clue here too - with the 98%-100% slice of the knob travel, it could be inert/struck-out[e: 'masked'] or red and active. The button controlling the behavior could point or bracket that range.

2)

LDR
CSCD
SKI#1
SKI#2
SEM

Less seriously? ...
Moo?
Ju?iter
MS?0
Obe?heim

[edited SKI# to SKI#1, SKI#2 - the # has a strong visual impact which makes it jump out ... I think the acronyms get confusing when they're too close to each other, having to actually read and expand them is confusing)

Maybe a little sinewave in a red circle with a diagonal strike thru it?

Ok, probably not, but it's a nice thought Smile

ResTrim? PeakTrim? These would suggest a knob, rather than a button, but this would be getting closer to the analog prototypes, where there is often a trimpot inside of a synth to adjust the onset of self-oscillation.

Looking forward to this filter. Big time.

Why not just "98%"? People who use filters every day will know what it means. The 98% knob.

Won't probably have resources to by it, but you've really got my kudos man, demos sound amazing! Smile That resonance trim is great idea btw. I also agree on the idea of knob version of this feature. Could be beneficial production-wise.

I don't care for the 3 letter acronyms either. I like the actual names of the filter much more. Very straight to the point and no guessing. I don't care if the name is long. I think they deserve to be and that makes it more fun, instead of ambiguously beating around the bush for hide and seek, search and find or whatever.

Looking forward to this when it comes out.
