Been working on this on and off for the last couple weeks and now its finally done:
Palladium, a skin for Jeremy Evers' excellent Atlantis. http://jeremyevers.com/atlantis/ Just so you can see that this little gem has way more to offer than the randomizer buttons would make you think i have also thrown in a bank with a selection of mostly classic-stuff presets. Some of them are quite usable, others are more meant to be feature-demonstrations. Im sure you will know what is what. The archive also contains a little audio-demo. See AudioDemoInfo.txt for details. Download: http://7oieqq.1fichier.com/en/ (Note: Original link deleted - host service was crap. Download now contains both Palladium and Palladium-Steelblue. AudioDemo has been removed. Size of archive 1MB.) Enjoy Atlantis, a true Stereo synthesizer with tons of filter models whose sound never ceases to amaze me... Ah, thank you, will try it out later.
A little too gray for my taste, but the size of the envelopes is very good, since they are a little tricky to adjust. Wish Atlantis (and Oatmeal) was updated to x64... CC |

Yes, VERY grey. Would be nice to have a little more detail and borders. Just for ease, flow and focusing, for the eyes. ---- This is what I make: atmastudios ---------------------- with everything you do, do it with love and respect. ---------------------- |

The envelopes were the main reason why i decided to make a new skin. One can do a lot of nice things with them but it was no fun at all working with up to 32 envpoints in a stamp-size box. Now we have 512x91 pixels per envelope to work with. Whole different ballgame. vaisnava wrote: Yes, VERY grey.
Actually its all silver-tones with metallic highlights. (Hence the name Palladium.) It may in fact look a bit 'grey' against that super-white background at the pixhoster, but when you see it against a darker background (like the one here in the forum) the metal structure comes out very well and everything is very easy on the eyes even when you do longer tweaking sessions. That was very important to me since i often spend a long time creating new sounds. So my recommendation is that you try it out live, preferably against a dark background. If you (any/all of you) then still think it is too grey/bright/whatever i might consider making a second version when i have the time. As long as you dont expect me to make anything that looks like painted plastic. |

Alright, since its sunday and i had some time i whipped up an alternative version for those who thought that the first one was too grey/bright/colorless.
All that was silver is now steelblue, the box-labels have been semi-glassified, boxes are darker for a little more contrast, and, where necessary, colors have been adapted to match the new tint. I cant help but notice a certain lack of enthusiasm here. Is the UI really that horrible or is it just that nobody cares for the synth? Just curious, since such 'quietness' is rather uncharacteristic for this place. |

I think it looks great (especially the steel blue version) - will download when I have some quality time to give Atlantis another go (I love this synth - at least in theory Thanks a lot for your work! ---- 'I don't know what makes XT2 sound at least 15% better than XT1, but it simply does.' - DJT http://www.myspace.com/rustymagicmusic |

I like the UI style, but it's still too monochrome for me. I personally find section colouring useful for navigation, even when I know what stuff is.
You couldn't pick a more worthy synth for your efforts though, Atlantis is f**king fantastic. |

Let the weekend work for you, instead of hangovers, and the new work-week fighting for attention. Thanks for this, momentum will pick up, and bumps will help. A wider variety of sounds will help Atlantis popularity, and the nice new gui will invite sound design Cheers |

Thanks everyone for the feedback and the nice words.
My self-confidence is starting to recover. (Seriously, thanks.) robenestobenz wrote: I like the UI style, but it's still too monochrome for me. I personally find section colouring useful for navigation, even when I know what stuff is.
Funny you should mention color-coding. As you can see on this screengrab of an earlier draft, the initial plan WAS to have (quasi-) color-coding for the 4 main sections by means of individually colored button overlays. However, there were several things about that version that kept bothering me: + The woodframe somehow looked like it doesnt really belong + The violet envelopes made me cringe everytime i looked at them + The buttons looked a tad too fake-3d, corners too sharp / pointed + The button overlays (colored lights) looked pretty cheap + The different button-colors seemed to harm the overall look more than improving it + The mod slider ribbons (which now have scales for better orientation) looked way to plain + The oscilloscope backdrop looked too ordinary / boring + The arrangement of the function buttons (lower right) lacked symmetry So i canned that approach and changed everything accordingly... robenestobenz wrote: You couldn't pick a more worthy synth for your efforts though, Atlantis is f**king fantastic.
Agreed. The sounds one can get out of this thing are simply amazing. Plus the quality of the oscillators and filters seems just right. Atlantis doesnt sound neat and clean and artificially polished, it sounds dirty and raw like electricity flowing through a bunch of 1970's discrete circuits. And what more could you ask of a virtual analog. Of course it does have its problems too, (like attack-clicks under unfortunate circumstances), but there is nothing that cant be tweaked / worked around if you know what youre doing. And since Jeremy Evers seems to know what he is doing too im sure the final version - if/when there will be one - is going to be flawless. (Not that it isnt fantastic already - all things considered i think it is by far the best free subtractive available at this time. The gigantic feature-set alone even outclasses tons of commercial synths, (18 shaper options, 49 filter models plus various phasers, flangers, choruses, etc.), and the sound quality - well - IMO beyond criticism. Plus its true Stereo and you can use your own waves for OSCs and LFOs too.) glokraw wrote: A wider variety of sounds will help Atlantis popularity, and the nice new gui will invite sound design That would be great. Atlantis definitely needs to be more 'on-the-radar' as this might give Jeremy the incentive to finally put the final polish on his synth. He did such a great job getting Atlantis to where it is today, it would be a shame if he stopped working on it just because he thinks that nobody cares for it anyhow... |

I'd like to give this a go, but I've had no luck on the website you've uploaded it to. The only links there, appear to be ads - like the big "Download" image for instance. The file itself has no link to it. Could you possibly upload this to a more reliable site? |

I'm glad you said that, I've always felt exactly that way about Atlantis... not a smooth kind of character, it sounds very electric in that earlier way. |
