It's the same damn piece of crap. They can put up videos of the "optimized" version and it doesn't mean a damn thing. When you get the instrument you don't get the same thing you see in the video you get a crapped out cheaply built with poor workmanship.

This is one in a series of threads we had about the yrg all the rest had to be closed do flame wars and intimidation.

just picked up a roland GR-1 and GK-2 pickup pretty cheap at a hock shop the other day.. yes i know it's an antique but it's fun for someone who never had a guitar synth before..i used it to record some midi/vst tracks, yes a bit wobbly but didn't take too long to fix.. i think it'll do til that fishman triple play comes out. Then i'll sell it to a mate and grab one, wow!they look great!

In my opinion that review is far too kind.

Any user feed back from anyone with a Misadigital Kitara yet? I don't think I could pull the trigger without trying one first. Like someone said before.. that's the problem with this stuff.. no stores carry them.

Hi ,the Fender Mustang is the best so far playing midi out there ... @ ur own risk , just solder the string triggers directly to the piezo pick ups , the modifications they made aint so good ... , n u dont get the full spectrum of the pluck .. ( maybe software would solve them , but i dont see a website , may be there is one , like the U rock guitar . )m..u dont need pressure sensitive velocities , would be nice to have em , keyboards dont give u that , correct me someone ####....i have one , wasnt happy with the hammer ons though , the ztars are way over priced , the rock controller may never come out .. the upgrade options of starlabs sucks for $$$$ , they take your ideas and charge u for that .. the log necks on the fender mustang are excellent ..but they slightly missed the boat like the yamaha EZ AG ... ...if they improve on the fender Mustang .. like pressure sensitive frets , a 24 fret feature n solder the strings on the piezo pick ups directly .. u have a 100% sure winner .. everything else of the fender mustang is excellent even the build quality 4 that price is ok ... .... looking for a Fender Mustang ver II ... i would buy 4 of em... n by the way i have almost every midi guitar , n tried almost all.. read about some synthaxe etc .. never got there ... Hail Midi guitars @ reasonable rates.. Mustang u r almost there...make it pls
best wishes sam

I would check out the You Rock Guitar as well. Allot of people dismiss it as a toy because you can use it as a video game controller in Rockband, Guitar Hero etc, but it's so much more than that and as a guitar midi controller it's really pretty amazing. They are not expensive and you get built in guitar and synth sounds along with the ability to trigger midi sounds with it. It works with an amp, headphones, with an iPod connected for jamming, snaps into two pieces for easy travel, and makes a great travel and practice guitar!

I'm wondering if the Eigenharp wouldn't ultimately give a much more 'guitar like' feel with the 3d keys. Cost of a Tau is about that of a mid-range zTar.

But then Eigenharps need that whole backend to operate (control box, computer), because they don't output midi on their own, whereas zTars are self-contained. Impossible to know since I can't try either one. Considering the cost of a zTar and how it's still very different from a guitar I do wonder what you end up with that could not have been more easily achieved on a keyboard (unless you're really into two-handed tapping). The Eigenharp on the other hand brings something to the table that keyboards don't have either.

If Misadigital added velocity and aftertouch to the Kitara at a comparable price point they'd be giving everybody a serious run for their money. But alas, the curse of this age seems that everything is always "not quite there".

Post

Are you sure the Misa doesn't have velocity, early on they said all it was-was a Linux based thing on a Pentium3, so you should be able to make, say upward strokes on the pad higher velocity?

Yes sorry, I meant per-key velocity at the fretboard end. The Kitara has everything, but it requires using the touchpad in combination with the fretting hand. That has its pros and cons, but I think you just have to roll with it. It's not really a flaw.

In the $2500+ bracket the Eigenharp probably wins out with the 3d expression as opposed to a zTar's aftertouch, but both the zTar and the Eigenharp are such huge investments, I would ask for a solid return policy if it doesn't work - or the posibility to thoroughly test them. Both of which you don't get - au contraire... (to be fair you can rent an Eigenharp, but it's only really feasible within Great Britain due to shipping costs).

I don't have an iPad and fear the tentacles of iOS enough not to even consider an iTar. If you're an avid OSX/iOS user that may be a workable system eventually. It needs a power supply though for the stage.

Ultimately I've decided to sell some of my stuff and get a Kitara. The price point, the self-contained unit (when needed... it's ZynAddSubFx after all, not some half-baked new synth from scratch), the overall flexibility and the open-source software show the most promise to me. They have already done a lot of improving on the software which show's they're actually making goood on that promise. Plus you can buy a three year warranty, so what can go wrong?

Well, also because it feels nothing like playing a guitar. :-/

I'm waiting for the Fishman.

Nothing plays like the guitar you own. Does a martin feel like an SG? Does a Tele feel like a gretsch?

That being said I really hated my yrg. I don't love my z6 but I've invested enough time to get comfortable with it and I like it. I'd prolly love a z5 or a mini 12 a lot.
