Is it possible to completely strip (delete) all the MIDI CC and Program Change messages from a standard MIDI file imported into Studio One?

I had a look the other day and couldn't find any way to do it.

When you are looking at the midi editor, make sure you can view the automation lanes, then right-click the title of whatever is present that you want to delete, and select 'delete' (I think, don't have S1 in front of me).

So in the image above as an example, to be clear, just right-click 'Modulation' that is present in the second lane, it will give an option to delete.

There's a function in the right click context menu "Event | Remove Part Automation" that will remove everything for selected events all at once ... but be careful with it because it will also strip sustain pedal data and pitch bend data.

There's a FR on the table to remove sustain and pitch bend (performance data) from that function, and only strip control data.

Thanks for the replies. This isn't my software - I'm just helping a couple of my students with a project. But I must say, Studio One is REALLY nice - just this MIDI editor. I'm too used to Logic I guess.

Braj, not sure what you mean by this...

There's no 'Delete' option there - just 'Remove' & 'Add'.

I know it's possible to delete individual CC events by selecting them and hitting 'Delete', but what they (my students) are trying to do is delete all program/bank & CC messages (except CC64) from the start (and all the way through) of an imported standard MIDI file. You know, those stupid messages like "Chorus Depth" and "Expression" etc.

Lawrence, thanks for your answer too. I like that but it's a shame there's no filter there.

Cheers :)

Yeah REMOVE=DELETE :-) I think

From what I can see, they just add or remove the parameter buttons as opposed to the actual data.

Well I just checked with Reverb Depth (I didn't have any files handy with program changes). I created an automation track for Reverb Depth on a GM midi file, set some curves, then removed and re-added the Reverb Depth and the curves were gone. That indicates 'remove' is removing the automation, not just the button.

Ahh... I see. Got it now.

This is cool and it works well for removing all that unwanted data.

Strange though... The 'Remove' option is greyed out for modulation, pitch bend & aftertouch.

Anyway, thanks Braj. You've been a great help.

Cool, I'm glad it was helpful :) I also thought it was weird that some options are fixed BTW. IMO the midi editor of Studio One needs to mature a lot still.

You're welcome. There's been requests made in that regard. It maybe needs an actual load filter where certain things get stripped on midi file load by option and/or two discreet stripping functions like Cubase has, "Strip Controllers" and "Strip Continuous Controllers", after the fact, where the latter only strips CC's.

They'll get to it I'm sure. It's only on version 2.
