Superb & authoritative percussive elements in this one and a wonderful cinematic composition.
The audio fidelity is a bit dull and dry,but still,a creative tour de force.

@ Thom
re: a bit dull and dry... if you can elaborate on that i would really appreciate it (samples? mix?). maybe suggest how to improve it too
thx for everything!

Well...sample quality certainly is an important factor,as it sounds like you're working with some budget VST's(but people use what is in their budget and I know good orchestral sounds are pricey).kcisANDderit wrote:@ Thom

However though,I was thinking it terms of making the most of the sounds you have to work with, such as implementing a bit more reverb where needed, such as the brass & strings.
In the case of the drum track(s),the amount of reverb sounds adequate, but using some EQ to enhance the reverb trails, would be an improvement.
Essentially, what I mean to say,is that with regard to stereo depth & clarity and fx,this recording falls short.
The brass & strings are flat sounding...almost as if they're monophonic. In addition to brightening it up with EQ & adding more reverb,I would like to suggest that you widen the stereo field by using a combination of a chorus effect and a cross delay effect.
Overall,it just sounds like this song didn't go through any sort of mastering process-which is unfortunate, since so much attention to detail was paid towards the composition.

@Thom
cool. i will try out those ideas
btw, the strings and brass are kirk hunter studios (most recent libraries). i apparently narrowed them too much, for one
thx again for taking the time. very helpful indeed!

file update above
i widened the stereo on all tracks and compressed the reverb 1-3dB to enhance the detail
i do think it sounds much better. more open/spacious and airy now
thx for listening and the tips!

a truly excellent composition.
i feel you could still lift the high frequencies a bit more and maybe take a look at easing off the low mids, even so it's an excellent piece
neil.
