EXPERIMENTAL, you must have patience to set it up! http://mercuriall.iks.ru/cms/ It sounds something like this: S-Gear into Mercuriall cab: www.andras-shimon.com/S-Gear/S-Gear_Mercurrial.mp3 That is pretty interesting. Anyways, really thought I was on to something. I suck..........I want a lemon to suck on............. Maybe tomorrow after I'm amped with coffee and don't mind sweating profusely only my guitars, I'll jam out a couple of things. Just hope if I do someone listens to it (whether they like it or not) No Hibidy, you don't suck, but you do point to what's probably a huge issue for developers, and that's all the different tastes out there, coupled with different guitar, string gauges, audio interfaces, monitors. It's pretty staggering. Maybe I was doing something wrong? The audio demos on the site sounded good. It could have been simply that the AT amps are voiced to go with their cab sounds and maybe I'd have done better using S-Gear. Don't give up hope on yourself Hib. ZC, do you remember a couple of years back when you didn't understand by what I meant when I answered the question...."what is the best amp sim?" with "the one I didn't get"...get it now? BTW that was purely meant as sarcasm because the truth is that is not always a bad thing...I've said it before and I'll say it again...what a great time to be a guitar player ---- I never learned anything from being right Hink 2012 RIP Reason L. and Ian B |

Sometimes the best thing to do is just step away from the computer/ampsim, pickup an acoustic or electric guitar, and jam along to your favorite album/songs. You don't even need any amp for this. Then when you come back to the ampsim after honing in on your skills or song you've been wanting to learn and master, the actual ampsim/tone deficiencies wont be a distraction and you'll be more focused/creative and happy on playing using whatever ampsim it happens to be. Happens to me all the time where I will load up something fast and cpu/ram effecient, like an Aradaz amp or the Guitar Suite, dial in a sound where I only need to adjust the pickup or volume/tone knob on my guitar to get a different gain/sound and get lost in jamming on the same couple songs for hours. That gets the brain and fingers warmed up, which usually leads to a new song idea/variation of the techniques employed in those songs I was jamming on. And in the end, the ampsim choice usually didn't matter, and I learned and progressed without that being a factor. Then what your playing and have recorded will lend itself to right sound desired for the part. At that point still it doesn't matter what ampsim, if it gets close enough, you still got this neat start to song you just made, which will hopefully inspire you more. If you get that far with a couple parts, then the arrangement can usually dictate what ampsims/tones you can get away with using, and at that point its more about the song. If I show that idea/song to other non guitar players (or even guitar players), it's more like "That was a cool idea/song, why didn't you finish it or add bass or change the single drum loop etc etc." Only sometimes it's "That was a cool guitar tone, what did you use". If the song draws enough of that interest, no one ever says "Woah, that cab sim sounds real aliased and hints of fizz etc...". Maybe only on KVR |

Nope. KVR is just one of MANY places people talk about amp sims to death. Might be one of the most popular though. |

Well... when I tried the Free version I didn't get it. I thought it was a joke, it just sounded bad. Then I tried the iLok full demo and it was a different world. Anyway.... Make sure to turn the VARIPHI knob, that's when the magic starts! Also try these Impulses, they are wonderful: http://cabs.kalthallen.de/ Interesting. I was able to get some decent sounds out of it and although I didn't need it, I was curious about the amp section emulation. On my list of possibilities for the future is to get a valve tube preamp to use with recording and use something like Torpedo afterwards. I have a question though. I tried the link you posted and it wouldn't load or play, but it drove me to your site. I see you list the Axe FX in your list of gear. How do you feel about it in the context of what we're talking about? Works for me.... try it again: http://cabs.kalthallen.de/ I owned the AXE-FX since 2006. Last year when they anounced the AXE-FX2 I sold the first generation and got on the waitting list.... but then I discovered S-Gear! Only 3 amps but right up my alley. So now everything is built around it. My chain is: Rock Block Tube Preamp/pedal (NOS Mullard tubes... see vid below) UA Solo610 DI (NOS Mullard tubes) Lynx L22 soundcard S-Gear Torpedo PI-101 WOS ValhallaRoom Reverb (also Tsar-1 and EMT-140) That's all I need, I even stopped using delays and other effects. I'm very happy with this setup, it has a hardware feel. About your question why would someone with AXE-FX or KEMPER need Torpedo? Very simple, all these modelers use static IR's for CAB simulation. The Torpedo is the next generation simulation of CABs. It's a hybrid IR, Dynamic IR and Logarithmic plug that mimics distortion, mic placement and all kind of studio tricks (like the VARIPHI).... but the technology doesn't really mater, the main thing is that it simply sound more real. You can feel the air between the CAB and the mic, there is a slight compression of speaker, slight distortion it all adds up. I normally don't use the built in Amp simulation in Torpedo but I will try RockBlock Preamp straight into Torpedo with Output Tube simulation ON and will post a clip.
