I have a question - if I want to do the classic gated drum reverb sound in V-Room, what are the best sounding algorithms for this? Or is it all a matter of preference?

Large Room
Large Chamber
Dark Chamber
Dark Space
Sulaco
The other algorithms might have a bit of ringing when set to very short decay values, or might have strange amplitude behavior at the lowest decay settings.
In general, if you are using the Early section as a gate, you can probably keep DEPTH set to 0%. At this point, you can make your decision based on whether you want a brighter or darker sound, as the Early section in the Dark/Alien algorithms will have less high frequencies. This would probably give you a more "authentic" gated sound. Using Narcissus or Sulaco will give you the lowest CPU in this case.
Here's a good gated reverb starting point:

I've set the Late Size to 0.0, and the DECAY to a short setting, in order to add a bit more thickness to the gate when DEPTH is greater than 0%.

Sorry I didn't explain myself better, I was more thinking about getting a massive reverb sound that will be processed by an external gate. I'm just wondering what algorithms and settings will be ideal for a snare drum. I should prolly just go experiment.

Hey I have an idea for Mr Valhalla as a preset.
A tempo-synced reverb that goes wub wub wub on the low end and a leslie on the top end. I have no idea what it will sound like but I would like to hear it.
And what about an effect that simulates being underwater?
If you had a multi-effect rack plug-in instead, similar to the structure you get with keyboard workstations, that had reverbs, chorus, delays, distortion, compressors, etc. totally configurable and flexibly routable... then people can get more creative and experimental with presets.
Use your excellent re-sizeable GUI, using tabs for each different FX block.
You'd then be competing with Guitar Rig though. But if you priced it right, it would be a no-brainer purchase.

Sounds like a good start, if you like that ching chingery feel. How does the middle bit go again? It works better for me to concentrate on more specialized plugins, as opposed to all-in-one solutions. I'd rather dial in deep on one effect, as opposed to figuring out how to route a bunch of effects.meldavid wrote:Hey I have an idea for Mr Valhalla as a preset.
