Congrats. Somewhere on your site, you say that it's possible to run it under Linux with Wine. And you say also to tell you if we are interested in a native Linux version. I am.

Very cool - many thanks. If you get a change to try the trial (Windows) version on Linux (with Wine), can you let us know how you get on?

Would try it but the new version doesn't reset the demo time limited. 30 days expired.

BTW, I mentioned this on a separate thread, thought I'd repeat it here.

Yeah, there are a lot of great ideas that come and go.

Our current big focus is bring Noatikl 2 to mobile - tools need to adapt to changing platforms, or they simply die off...!

The content you create with both Mixtikl and Noatikl can be easily shared with the world via twitter... as you can see from content links here:

knowing that potentially anybody with a copy of (say) Mixtikl (even Mixtikl Free for iOS) can hear your music with very little distribution effort!!

The "tikls" that you tweet from Mixtikl or Noatikl, contain all music rules and sound definitions, so your music should sound the same (albeit generatively different!) wherever your public finds your music.

Of course, this won't necessarily be of much interest to desktop DAW/VSTi gurus. But it is pretty cool for people who come into music from mobile devices and twitter!

So : Noatikl installs fine on my Linux distro (Ubuntu Studio 12.04 64 bits + KXstudio repos).
I just spent 10 mn with it : most of the features are working, except maybe the internal synth (something related to audio I/O settings). And the mouse cursor sometimes disappears, but reappears when you shake it heavily.

What audio output device have you hooked-up Noatikl to?

You can check this via the main menu:

Options -> Devices -> Output -> (select your audio output device from the list)

Hopefully adjusting this (and then pressing play again) ... it will 'just work'!

If the mouse disappears - I'd guess that would be down to a Wine bug (?)

Using jack is the only way in Linux.
For wine apps, there's wine of course and wineasio, a bridge to jack.

Options -> Devices -> Output -> only shows "wave out", which leads to nothing in jack audio.

I suspect that the new way of handling audio within wine is the cause, for I have the same problem with some other Windows apps that were formerly working fine (Reaktor for instance).

So for now, I'll just deal with midi for 30 days.

Many thanks for investigating that for us all.

That is bad news on the Wine audio - if you ever find the solution, do *please* share your work-around!

I'd also be interested to hear how you get-on with MIDI interfacing from Noatikl in Linux - I tried that myself a while back, but couldn't get it working!

As you know, we're open to creating Linux-specific versions of Noatikl and Mixtikl (standalone or plug-in), but still aren't sure that the demand really exists for paid-for software for Linux. Especially as you can usually use Wine to use paid-for Windows software pretty well on Linux... can you think of any particular advantages for a user in having Linux-specific variants of tools, now that Wine is (usually!) so good? Unless it (say) makes MIDI and audio interfacing easier to get going, or easier to use VSTis...?

I'll tell you, but after fixing my setup. Actually, it's a mess. I have 2 soundcards, one PCI and the other USB. Midi comes through USB, but wine is a bit lost with two soundcards. I ordered a midi only interface, and I am going to unplug my USB soundcart, it will only act as a surface control via midi.

Technically, even if wine works, I don't think that it's the good path. Because you're stuck with cross updates between wine, wineasio, alsa, jack and you can't get something stable.

And to tell if there is a market for paid-for software, I'm not sure. I *did* bought the LinuxDSP plugs, because they are so nice. And I wait for the next Loomer product. Maybe you should ask the Loomer guy, he's cool.
