Hello everybody,
Are there people on this forum who use noatikl? I bought it last month and although I haven't got my head around all options, I think it's a great tool! Maybe some people can share some settings or some knowledge... I use it in reaper and it works great but I till have to experiment a lot with the micro controllers and stuff. I hope to hear from some noatikl users! Cheers, manducator P.S.: The 3 most recent songs here (grey, into the light, into the darkness) are written with noatikl: www.soundcloud.com/doglover |

I use this a lot. It is definitely kind of complicated, but even just hitting things at random and creating midi files gets you some interesting things.
I take those files and use them in Ableton Live where I can send them through the midi scale tool to keep the sounds friendly with each other. |

Well, I'm really happy with the program. I will learn in time. Quote: I take those files and use them in Ableton Live where I can send them through the midi scale tool to keep the sounds friendly with each other.
I never had results out of tune, it's easy to create sounds that fit together. |

Semi-related -- i was reading up on Brian Eno, which led to reading about generative music/synths, which led to discovering Mixtikl. Haven't tried Noatikl.
Mixtikl is pretty freaking great, bought it for the iPad. Create some ambient drones, shoot it over to Logic... pretty creative app. |

Well, the creators seem to consider Noatikl as the new Koan, which was used by Eno: Quote: Noatikl is a powerful, easy to use generative music software tool that helps you come up with new music and song ideas - and your own "reflective music" and generative music.
It uses generative / aleatoric / stochastic / algorithmic music techniques developed over the last 19 years through our work on the award-winning Koan generative music system, techniques now used in the all-new and superior "Noatikl". ★ ★ ★ ★ Noatikl review by Music Radar (Computer Music Mag) (+ more user quotes): * "Noatikl picks up where Captain Eno's beloved Koan left off" * "the sky is really the limit" * "those with an open mind may find Noatikl to be their ideal collaboration partner" * "a superb resource for ideas, and a sure-fire cure for writer's block" I have never used Mixtikl. |

Mixtikl is pretty freaking great, bought it for the iPad. Create some ambient drones, shoot it over to Logic... pretty creative app. Mixtikl is great, especially with the latest updates that have improved the UI. I use it on the iPod and even given the number of options and parameters the smaller screen size isn't really an issue. It's one of my most used audio apps along with Jasuto Pro. ---- Vim Fuego Is God |

I don't have much time right now but I will be all over this!
Can't find a pdf manual for version 2, only an online manual. Is that correct? |

Intrigued by this thread, I downloaded the AU/VST version of Noatikl 2 to my MB Pro, 10.6.8.
Both the VST and the AU promptly crashed every host that I tried to open them in. I didn't even get to see the GUI. Seems these guys have released an alpha for the Mac… I kind of lost interest, as you may imagine… /Joachim ---- If it were easy, anybody would do it! |

Over complicated - I bought it last year because it sounded interesting but have barely used it. Can't seem to get it to do much really - I've tried inserting it in a host and routing the midi to a plugin but it doesn't seem to make a sound and in NI Kore and Energy XT it just freezes the host. I haven't a clue how to use it to be honest and it doesn't seem to come with any examples either. The non existent upgrade price is also a bit ridiculous. ---- My free patches here http://fingermarks.co.uk/music2.htm My Soundcloud page: http://soundcloud.com/amused ![]() |

At one point I was really into generative stuff. I did some tracks with FractMus back in the day. But I can't really tell from the website what the workflow is with the absurdly named noatikl. I'm tempted to play with the ipad version of mixtikl because it's cheap, but, on the other hand, I've somewhat lost my interest in algorithmic music because it doesn't really lead to anything that I find inspiring or compelling in many cases. That said, I do jam regularly with a friend who's into noise/ambient, and I use that opportunity to explore things that I don't use day to day. I'm curious if there are any good open source implementations of different academic algorithms? This seems to me like it would be more useful as a set of tools for max for live than as a standalone VST. Maybe someone can describe the workflow? And what is the relatinship between mixtikl and noatikl? Finally, if you use mixtikl on the ipad, how do you use it? |
