Motunation is an independent entity please don't judge motu themselves by that guy..

mind you motu support is not known for being stellar which is why they probably created that forum for a need for users to help eachother, which was what i was trying to get, help.

Look i made a mistake and was a bit derrogatory, bit feel i deserved at least one warning and a second chance and i would have gladly made amends. I made a mistake and was really stoned for it unfortunately.

OK then - I won't, but MOTU should be aware of the actions of anyone using (and potentially harming) their name.

I would say quite derogatory, BUT the site admin SHOULD have just sent you a PM saying 'Please edit your post, how do you expect anyone to help you with a post like that'

Anyway, I am not having a go at you - I am just surprised that a 'site admin' with that sort of attitude hasn't been kicked into touch.

I wouldn't say harsh - just a classic example of a w&%ker being made a moderator and thinking that makes them able to hold their sword in the air and shout 'by the powers of grayskull'

If that is the sort of support that I am going to get, I am staying well away from Motu!

ttoz, did you get a reply to your question? Or better yet, did you try the 828 hybrid, or buy it? Or maybe there is someone else who has used this unit who will be kind enough to share his/her experiences.

Im very curious to know how this unit performs, and some info about converter quality and clocking would be great too. I'm going to buy a new interface soon, and Ive boiled my choices down to the 828mk3 hybrid and focusrite liquid saffire 56.

Bump.. And I shpuld probably mention that I'm now considering the 896mk3 hybrid instead of the 828.

I just want to add that Duet2 is absolutely wonderful for me, no bad latencies, and it sounds fabulous compared to my old Motu. Definitely a big difference to my ears. I know 8 months is a long time but the latest drivers fixed a lot of issues I think. Anyways, just wanted to say that I didn't experience any of those problems, bought my Duet2 last xmas.

From the current Apogee line, the only option is the ensemble.

And that too is not really an option. I'm looking for something with 2 pairs of ADAT IO, so it can integrate nicely with my recently acquired (for a ridiculously low price Smile) 01V96VCM which has 2 pairs of ADAT IO, because of the included 8-channel ADAT expansion card.

There are very few cards on the market that meet this requirement. They are the RME Fireface UFX/800, M-Audio Profire 2626, Steinberg UR824, TC Electronic Studio Konnekt 48, besides the ones by MOTU and Focusrite I already mentioned.

If I had the budget for it, I would not hesitate at all in picking up either the FF800 or UFX. The Steinberg UR824 is another good option. I heard some very good things about the preamps and conversion on the MR816 and these are the same apparently. But Steinberg is seemingly capable of dropping support for hardware on a whim, and this is what concerns me most about buying this one. It is a relatively new product though, so it should be supported for a reasonably long time.

Of the ones I'm looking at, the most expensive one in my country is the MOTU 896, followed by the Steinberg UR824. The Liquid Saffire is next, and is substantially (around $300) cheaper than these two. The cheapest is the 828, about $100 less than the LS56.

The LS56 is the most competitively priced option for me. Its actually a no-brainer at the price, but if the motu or steinberg interfaces have significantly better clocking and conversion, I would be happier to pay a little more now, rather than having to upgrade again in 2-4 years. I also do have the 12 pres from the yammie, so just the 2 pres on the 828 may be enough, and I can add more outboard ones later if needed.

The MOTU hybrids have the added advantage of usb/firewire. My imac has only 1 firewire bus, and I'd like to connect the recording hard drive to that. Sure I could daisy chain, but it is useful to have the option of switching to and fro.

Another option is to not add the multitrack recording capability right away, and only use the fully treated recording/jam room as only a jam room for the moment. In a few months, I could then get an RME interface instead.

I am not interested in TC or M-Audio.

I guess thats a lot of detail, but thats the story Smile
