I installed the Win8 Consumer Preview on my main PC but I have discovered that MIDI devices aren't showing up at all, despite having all the latest Win7 64 bit drivers installed. I've tried both my Line6 KB37 and Edirol PCR-1 with Orion and neither show up in the device list. They don't work with energyXT v1.7 either, but that could just as easily be me not setting it up properly. DOes anyone have MIDI working in Win8? |

Any reasons why it should work? It's a preview...not ready for productive use... |

I can't imagine they're abandoning the WDM driver structure, so why wouldn't WDM drivers work? Anybody know whether WDM drivers will work?
I've read more than a few expert opinions that show serious concern about whether professional content developers are even going to be able to use Win8, let alone like it. ---- Crime in multi-storey car parks. That is wrong on so many different levels. http://soundcloud.com/dan-ling |

I'm not worried about audio, I can't get MIDI to work.

Not much use previewing it if it doesn't work, is there? So far every other part of it has worked perfectly well. |

A preview does not have to work perfect...otherwise it would not be a preview read here... http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winappswithnat ivecode/thread/72f78574-02c3-4986-8d5f-623b31c89765 "So the Consumer Preview has come and there is still no MIDI Device functionality to be found in Metro." |

Hard to imagine a 2012 release based on everything I've read. ---- Crime in multi-storey car parks. That is wrong on so many different levels. http://soundcloud.com/dan-ling |

What are you so worried about 8 is more of a specialized OS for tabs, touch and phones. Don't count on it being an upgrade persay. If it isn't for you don't sweat it, stick with 7 and ask MS how come us Musos don't get our own OS. just a question mind you, they wouldn't even glance. ---- A minor scale is a major scale starting 3 half steps down from the major and visa versa. That simply confirms that it should work, as I am not trying to use MIDI in any Metro app and its supposed to be using the same MIDI it has always used outside of Metro. Like what? I've been using it exclusively for two months and this is the first problem I've had at all. Generally it seems to support older software better than Win7 and overall feels like a much bigger step up from Win7 than Vista/Win7 were from XP. |
