Out and about for the day, just thought I'd check and see if someone could share their recipe for the perfect New Order bass guitar sound in Trilian :-)

Surely you cant be serious :-) Its all in the technique - get the right acoustic bass and mic placement plus FX and playing style.

You need to play faster, but slower.

Yes I am. There was a decent combinator patch in Reason I heard a while back that made me think of asking about this. Certainly playing style is huge, just the right effects and adjustments to a patch in Trilian would be nice. Please don't be condescending ok? Is just a question.

The most important thing is too play it low, like just below the knees or else it wont sound like 'ooky.

To the original poster: if you ever come across this or program it yourself, lemme know about it. While you're at it, I need the tone of the bass player from the Fixx as well. :)

You might be able to get near to the Hookie sound if you hold your computer closer to the ground whilst playing! ;)

Yeah I tried that and it doesn't work, that low-slung style is easier than it looks :P

 I'd say hire Peter Hook , but the grumpy old bastard wouldn't work for you...unless you're an attractive woman with large breasts

Well that COULD be arranged, but not sure it would be quite worth the effort :)

I've been playing with Trilian and get somewhere near the sound but not to my satisfaction yet. I wonder if the current Reason demo has that patch, kind of a lot of work to download and install just take a look at one patch though :)

Some good 'gear tips' and 'how to play like' information here:

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

i never really consider him a bass player, as he always plays quite high notation, especially in NO when they had synths player basslines....its not often you hear a JD/NO song with hin playing a part that sounds like a typical bass sound....so im guessing thats what you are after :hihi:
