I haven't really had time to explore String Studio, but the best-sounding demos I've heard are Himalaya's. He's gone the distance and created MIDI mappings for individual presets, and the increase in playability shows.
I also enjoyed the Journeys bank, which I grabbed at Christmas - and there are a few stand-out patches in there, too. Funnily enough, it was the patch names that first got my attention. There's a nice World music vibe to the whole thing.
Or, of course - roll your own! My impression is that SS responds very sensitively to small tweaks, so it may take a while to get into it. I could wish those knobs were a bit bigger...

I have the Himalaya bank, all Xenos' banks (200 or so sounds for $25), Entangled Species & Journeys from AAS. All are excellent in my view, but I think Xenos' banks are the best value per $ - great variety there, and lots of bread & butter sounds, which are very usable. Himalaya's is high quality. Not at home computer, so can't send you a list of the patch names. To me it is definately worth buying.
The AAS banks are more "specialised" - fewer bread and butter sounds (plucks etc.) and more "fx / soundtrack-like" type sounds. Some of the patches are incredibly creative and beautiful, but they may not be as easy to use in a musical context. Personally, I love them, but they have limitations.
