Neat. My first thought, though, was ergonomics (just like some of you folks). i have enough trouble with mouse and track pad. Touch screens are fantastic, but that's also wrong ergo for desktop machines (and i really do think physical controls are important in many cases). A mix and match scenario, depending on context, is a good idea.

But this is neat.

Inefficient, maybe. A potential lifesaver, also maybe!

We electronic musicians and engineers sit at a screen so many hours a day, without really moving. Now at least our upper bodies might be active, (some folks do the lower half with a balance ball!)

As a long-time engineer, we used to get up and change tapes and mics a few times an hour, (or heavens, get them from a storage room down the hall!), be constantly be twisting and bending to patch and adjust large racks of gear, punch-in vocals like it was a surgery, operate the recorder and hover our hands over the board for hours tracking and mixing. I'd actually be physically tired after long days.

I do a tenth of that now, and I feel it. My right hand hasn't moved so much since I was twelve, the rest of me since I was one. On our network, I set my printer preferences to be furthest from me, just so I get out of my chair every now and then. Stuff like this interface can only help, the other direction is BAD.

But honestly, I see things like this quickly evolving to eye movement. Not good for the species! But so easy...

Kinect looks like it has some huge inputlag.

I've been using the Kinect with Synapse software as a music interface for live performance and yes, the latency is pretty bad, and the camera resolution is low. So for anything requiring accuracy of position and timing like controlling a virtual mixing desk it would be next to useless.
The Leap looks from the trailers like it would fix these problems - can't wait!

They've recorded dozens of "Dj's" pointlessly exaggerated/overzealous (elbow-in-the-air) "knob/slider" gestures, so as to make a distinction between the two.
