EQ/Reverb/Compression Plug-ins with a LOT of presets?

Hi all, I'm new to this forum but I heard that this was a good place to ask questions...I'm currently working on a project right now experimenting with the idea of turning my improvised piano recordings into an entrepreneurial project. You can click the link below if it's something you might be interested in.

I have some basic experience in audio engineering but I would like to have some presets...well ideally a TON of presets in EQ, Reverb and Compression so that I can experiment with different "flavors" of how the recording might sound post-production. Tweaking will probably be done at a later date when we have a better idea what kind of sound we need in order to create a fairly consistent experience for the listener overall. It's still in the experimentation stages right now so there's lots of room to make massive changes.

Does anyone have any recommendations regarding plug-ins or downloadable presents I could potentially use? Using Adobe Audition at the moment.

Thanks!
Ryan

The Fabfilter plugins are always quite good with the presets.

There's really not much use for EQ and compression presets. I mean, every track is different, I don't see how a preset can help you. I've seen compressor presets called "acoustic guitar" and I don't even know what that means... Not every acoustic guitar sounds the same, is recorded the same way, or even plays the same role in the arrangement.

@midnight Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check that one out.

@geroyannis Yeah I'm aware of that, but I've been using Audition's presets as starting-points where I can start tweaking the track further.

The problem is mostly that I'm doing something in an "experimental" style that doesn't really have a "sound" that people normally associate certain production techniques with. So I just wanted some presets where I could cycle through a bunch of ideas really quickly and see which ones seem to work with what I'm doing. Sometimes a "pop mastering" preset works with some tracks, while at other times "classical" settings seem to get a better sound out of it. Sometimes wacky or weird presets turn out for the better because it adds an effect that you can't get out of normal settings.

Maybe if my ear gets better I'd be able to do make these tweaks without needing a reference, but I don't think I'm at that point yet.

Please at least learn how a compressor works before just flipping through presets. I can't tell you how often I see people do that and the signal isn't even breaking the threshold. Yet the make-up gain is set to +6 dB or whatever. It just blows my mind.

I have the basics down in terms of engineering -- most of my tracks are pretty leveled in terms of dynamic range, so most of the time I just use a hard-limiter to try to get the highest signal possible without crunching things too much.

EQ and especially reverb, though -- I found to be a pretty subjective process since a lot of it has to do with taste. My music is pretty ambient so I spend a lot of time tweaking between different type of reverb settings to see which one works best.

Guess the thing is that sometimes I'd spend hours tweaking something myself only to find out that a default preset makes the track sound better than what I was able to do on my own. I just wanted a palette to grab ideas from....

Nothing wrong with flipping through presets and tweaking them to your liking, its what a lot of people do. Long as you're doing that tweaking and you know what the parameters do, that's what needs to be done in order to make it fit properly in your mix.
