Using the ADAT I/O

Just curious to get feedback from those who use the ADAT on their audio interfaces.
The Presonus AudioBox 1818VSL has ADAT I/O, and I'm considering adding to that an ADAT preamp (Focusrite OctoPre MkII).
Anything I should know - be aware of?
I'm guessing since the ADAT preamp plugs into the Audio interface's ADAT inputs that brand matching won't matter since the preamp is one step removed from the computer and it probably has no driver to conflict with the Audio driver.

Clock synchronisation can be a nightmare with several ADAT devices. Whenever possible also make a WordClock connection and assign a proper clock master.1-2-Many wrote:Anything I should know - be aware of?
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

The 1818VSL is USB2.0, it's enough for the 8 analog audio channels. I assume that you want to add 8 more channels with the Octopre. Just check if the driver of the 1818VSL can handle and synchronize the 8 analog + the 8 adat and send them to the USB.
You can't always get what you waaaant...

Yes, and check for simulataneous in and out(duplex), what it can handle. Some interfaces have only simplex when it comes to more ins/outs.stanlea wrote:The 1818VSL is USB2.0, it's enough for the 8 analog audio channels. Also check if OctoPre can act as a slave, either through spdif/adat or wordclock if your interface has wordclock out. Biggest chance of working if soundcard is master.

How would I check that? What spec should I look for?stanlea wrote:......Just check if the driver of the 1818VSL can handle and synchronize the 8 analog + the 8 adat and send them to the USB.
I'm making the assumption that since it includes ADAT I/O that it can handle the extra 8 channels...but maybe this is a marketing thing.
