It isn't the most artfully played nor did I make full use of the Saxlab2 plugin, but I am just wondering how it comes across. Does it sound enough like a sax?

For me it sounds ok in the slower playing sections but perhaps a little re-triggery when you're playing the faster trills.

It's also fairly quiet in the mix so somewhat covered in other sound.

It's probably the best sax emulation i've heard but it'd never convince me it's the real thing.

Another sax VSTi worth trying is the free 'DVS Saxophone' (assuming you're using a 32bit host). It's really impressive imho ...

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking maybe the velocity needs adjusting to make it sound better in the faster bits especially, but I just played it straight with no editing, and there was a little clipping on the sax at higher levels so I just reduced the whole volume level. I'm not very patient and have to rush through a track before my short attention span kicks in and it just gets lost forever on my hard drive

I'm technically, clinically brain damaged in certain respects. There is zero automation going on, everything is just the first take of every instrument with a little arrangement and a few bits reused in places to give it some consistency. But I'm not very good at arranging a song into intro>verse>bridge>etc. It just kind of meanders. I hope it isn't too boring, I tried to keep it short because of that.

I doubt anyone would be fooled thinking it was a sax, but I don't want it to scream that it isn't. So is it screaming that it isn't I guess is my question

I'll try that

but I can't help feeling obliged to use what I paid 'good money' for, oh psychological issues abound! Anyhow I'll look to install and try it tomorrow, thanks for the recommendation.

Yeah I don't have Kontact

I think SaxLab2 works really well for me though, the biggest issue probably is my mix I think. Also tailoring the sound better to the track, I just grabbed the first preset that sounded warm and fuzzy to me.

the sax sounds more realistic, when it's played slowly. faster notes tend to sound more 'typewriter like' played.

What's that fretless bass? It sounds amazing!

The sax is nice, but I wouldn't call it realistic. There are so many ways to articulate the sound on the sax with your lips and tongue... you don't have a third of that control with a midi keyboard, even if you use a wind controller.

Almost there. It lose realism on the faster notes.
Always double check each note to adjust velocity and length

Bass is Trilian's Trilogy upright. I didn't tweak it at all, it is just 'stock'.

How 'realistic' does this sax sound?
