Woody Aki wrote:OK C-Note...I'll rephrase and point out some more factors.

- I do not own Sylenth...I tried it at a mate's studio. Impressive, but the complaints about Lenny's attitude to whoever communicated with him (whether they were polite or rude) put me off from buying the product. Moreover, everybody owns the damn thing...

- Conjecture it may be, but can you blame me when well-paid 'superstar' producers turn up on mags like Future Music wielding cracked software? On the other hand, I (like some people in this forum), have spent £4,000 on hardware and software since last October, paying it off with a 9-to-5 job.

- I went for an alternative supersaw synth - Dune. The sounds felt fatter and richer than Sylenth (my opinion, and not gospel). Now, I'm not one for supersaw synths (I'm a child of the 80's, and I hear synth sounds differently), but I figured that it would be good to have one on standby...mostly for pads and maybe for some basslines. Anything that smacks of Trance, Goa and Progressive House in the presets selection (probably around three-fifths of them) will be wiped out and replaced by initial patches which will be rebuilt into sounds of my liking.

- I repeat with impunity...Ichiro Toda Synth 1 is the best freeware synth out there. Most people don't see past it because of the GUI. Whether it's better than Sylenth is debatable, but I know people who have done whole tracks with it.

- I am not partial to software companies that leave you in the lurch. What's holding me from dropping Ableton is that I can't be arsed to change DAW's again.

This is where I get off, as I feel that I'm about to veer off the intended course of this thread. However, feel free to open up a new thread, and I'll be more than happy to keep on answering....
You don't own Sylenth? Nuf said.

I lost my license file and emailed Lennar earlier today about it. Within a matter of minutes I had my license file in my inbox. It was a rather simple request but I thought I should let people know about the near-instantaneous service I received from emailing Lennar Digital's support to help dispel the rumors about him not providing support.

he IS good with support; when the beta did not work in Logic/Lion, he got back to me immediately with details on how to get back to the pre-beta.

but, as always, i wish he would address requests for updates, or...anything else similar.

so it goes...

He provides support really fast but i think he have a fulltime job now, so he cannot work on future updates of sylenth. He won't abandon the support, but he just cannot update it anymore. So for anyone who's thinking about buying sylenth, lennard is really good with support, just make sure that you don't need to use 64 bit au.

Curious about Lennard too, I'd say he's one of my favorite dev's in the softsynth world.Sylenth1 is a banging synth, and it's just begging for a new browser and an option to layer via a multi patch option.

Hope he's still working on this one, cuz it's probably one of the best VA's without a doubt.

considering it hasn't been updated since 2008...don't hold your breath.
am just grateful it works with the 32bit bridge in logic (and continue to worry that the bridge won't be there in logic X)...

so it goes. "one day at a time".... :D

I think that's the case too, but I hope he still has been busy on S1v3/S2 in his spare time (and that's why it's taking so long), because he's obviously and without a doubt a super talented DSP Guru :hail:
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

That's a whole lot of conjecture right there..

I on the other hand think he trains monkeys at the zoo, and writes Gossip Girl fan fiction, so he cannot work on future updates anymore. I'm positive he wont abandon the support, even though I was just guessing what he does.

what's the difference? isn't dealing with the forum crowd at kvraudio JUST LIKE training monkeys at the zoo? and writing code...JUST LIKE writing gossip girl fiction?

i don't see what the problem is... :D

Perhaps he just doesn't want to work on it anymore? He's providing support, which is all you can reasonably make a demand for. Vanguard is "dead" and has been for a long time (PlastiCZ and QuadraSid too!) but I still use them from time to time and enjoy them almost as much as I did when they were new.

The sylenth engine is never going to have extra functions like PWM and sync and FM most probably by virtue of the efficient way it's coded. By skipping those extra complexities (which, for a huge swathe of bread-and-butter sounds, aren't really needed) he was able to deliver a high quality/CPU ratio. That's how I see it, anyway.

Changing any of this and making a sequel may just end up as "any old synth 2.0".
