Saurus seriously needs some better patches...I like the sound of this but the patches are horrible - especially the arps. However the tweakability of it is great - the control over arp parameters is excellent.
However agree, completely different beast to minimonsta

Maybe you should try KVR Market Place. You could get bothExamigan wrote:I like the sound and cpu usage of Saurus, but I love Minimonsta too.
Sort of a quandry, as I alway wished for MM, but then Saurus came along.
Both have a great sound, though they are different.
I wish I could afford both!
Thoughts?

I'm hoping to get a new i7 pc laptop soon.
Just can't buy any new synths for a while.
Yes I also have that option open, depends on how much birthday $$ I get. I usually get some cash around that time of year. If I take that route, I'll probably build my own from one of those barebones kits.

Actually in the car references DIVA =

Well since you HAD to go there, this is more like it:

If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

Well not exactly, if you have a new computer you 'paid' once and it is done. Only us folks with older machines have a hard time hitting full speed, and the problem is we aren't paying anything to increase the speed. Your analogy is not very fair, and your bias is apparent. Let's leave this be, shall we? This is supposed to be about Saurus and Minimonsta anyhow. I'm not looking to see you banned again.LeVzi wrote:Still a cab, gonna pay through the nose to get to where you wanna go.

Stack some voices in DIVA, then tell me even the more powerful CPU's won't suffer.
But yes, back ON TOPIC seeing as DIVA shouldn't have been mentioned at all in this thread, funny how history repeats itself every single time with the same usual suspects.

My opinion is that it COULD be mentioned when it is done in a more or less correct context (e.g. as a Minimoog emulation like Minimonsta is) and in a more or less objective comparison of features and/or sound (like i found that several of the Jupiter sounds of Diva could be nicely done with Saurus). It could also be used a "bad example" in terms of CPU use...LeVzi wrote:Stack some voices in DIVA, then tell me even the more powerful CPU's won't suffer.

The problem is that some people start a rant by just naming it and a real discussion does not seem to be possible and for some it seems almost impossible to admit that there are also other great sounding VA synths like e.g. Saurus on the market.
Like i already mentioned i am not sure if i still have Diva at the end of this year but i'll not sell Saurus for sure. This os not only based on the CPU use but also because i love the sound of Saurus, no matter which filters it emulates or something like that. In the cases where the sound of Saurus could lack i found an EQ seems to help.
I also found that i still prefer my Moog Slim Phatty for Moog like sounds even if it is no perfect emulation of a Minimoog and is more difficult to handle than a softsynth (i also got both the standalone and the VST editor for it...) but it has the kind of sound i like and i already made have a full bank of my own sounds for it which i'll maybe sell it at some point (maybe with a few changes). A few replications of those have made it into my presets for the upcoming Saurus expansion.

Me too, maybe I can possibly get both if they for sale over in the Market place section like someone suggested. It would probably make them NFR, but I wouldn't carePietW. wrote:

i sold Minimonsta and Oddity last year (but still have ImpOScar 2) and AFAIK it will become NFR.

There are two things that really bug me about Saurus: one is that there are some very obvious functions buried needlessly in the mod matrix. I can't really understand why some say it's "fun to program". It's a hassle to have to dial in things like velocity for the amp envelope in the click-click-drag-click-drag-click matrix. The screen is huge, and the knobs are huge, and there's so much space wasted there imo.
Just so you see where I'm coming from: I think the SynthSquad is fun to program, because of the brilliant transmod system. Whenever developers think things through and decide to drop the cute little wooden sides, cool things happen. Alas, not here.
The other thing is that Saurus really breaks apart when you want to take it to the edge. Pushing the filters, adding feedback and FM creates some decidedly ugly sounds. I happen to like ugly digital sounds, but I find these highly unpalatable. They get worse when you push the "tube" saturator, which doesn't sound like any tube I ever heard.
Otherwise, Saurus is a fine synth that can get pretty fat and chunky, providing you tease out its sweet spots. Competitively priced, as well.
From my demo run(s) with Minimonsta (which I was on the verge of getting when you-know-who arrived on the scene last year): I really liked the sound, and, seeing as I was used to the modulation capabilities from the other funky French plugins, found my way around easily. The morphing is great fun if you want to inject some variety and spontaneity into your playing. If you're into presets, then right now Minimonsta is the one to get; I know it's not really fair, since it's been around for years and Saurus has just arrived, but the price difference has to show somewhere. It's pretty hard to get Minimonsta to sound ugly in a bad way, by the way. Considering its age, I think it more than holds its own.
If money is no object, I'd go for the Minimonsta.
If CPU is no object... well, no need to go there, right?
