Except for XILS-lab PolyKB II Player they all require dongles, hopefully Xils releases some new full-featured synths without them soon. I have the CM version of the PolyKB II so I'm not sure I'm in the market for it, is there something more besides the 4 extra user parameter slots? If you don't mind selecting from a drop down you can still edit more than 4 at a time for any patch, but of course not all parameters are there.

About the sequencer, you will find some clues in the old video I did some years ago. They definitely have to be updated (unfortunately time is always to short), but they should give you some ideas :

I got this in a no brainer deal but I've never used it. Every time I fire it up it just sounds muddy and a bit lifeless to be honest. Not a fan myself. I also find the behavior a bit weird. Some patches don't make sound and some are crazy effects that send the channel way into the red so maybe there are bugs as well (OSX Lion).

If we talk about the original synth i also like to listen to Klaus Schulze & Pete Namlook "The Dark Side of the Moog VIII: Careful with the AKS, Peter":

I got the whole Dark Side of the Moog collection which is great IMO.
Of course Klaus Schulze used the VCS 3 (or AKS) in several other recordings.

well I am seeing similar things, I don't think they are bugs but partly just the patches and partly the archetecture being emulated. It came out in 1969 after all

its as old as I am. It doesn't have a conventional lfo, I need to figure that all out, seems the sequencer plays a role in achieving that to a degree. But I'm enamoured, I've been getting all kinds of interesting, familiar tones out of it, I really like the flute-like sou day the best, and it just has a lot of personality. It fits in amongst my other synths well and gives me what I didn't have so I'm happy.

XILS 3 LE and PolyKB II Player, good buys!
