Hello everyone. I've just purchased an external hard drive, and I'd like to know what everyone thinks is the ideal file structure to use when organizing one's sample libraries.
So far, I've separated everything based on the vendor/product name.
I have Komplete 8, so I will create its own dedicated folder.
HDD > Sound Libraries > Native Instruments > Komplete 8
> Numerous other folders for other products that are not registered in Service Center
Then again, I feel that I may confuse myself, as the vast majority of my sample files ARE for Kontakt.
Would everyone be able to recommend how I can go about doing this, so I don't have to resave everything later?

In my experience, the variety of samples out there kind of defy systematic codification, as much as I wish that weren't the case. Whenever I try to adopt a more formal file structure, it just doesn't work out so well. In the end, the best file structure, I think, is the one that allows you to have an easier time remembering where things are. Whether that happens via absurd unique names, or via date-acquired, or via style, or via sample purpose, use it if you can remember it.
If a fully organized sample library just isn't gonna work, then at least you can have the best of both words, with a bit of organization, and a bit of memorable waypoints.

Okay that sounds fair enough. Right now I have it organized via vendor and "Libraries Tab Kontakt Libraries", although I remember products more because of their names and not their manufacturers, so maybe I should play around with my file structure a little bit more. It's just as you say it is: experimentation. It should be fine though.

For Kontakt factory, I leave that in a master folder eg., 'Kontakt 4' as is. I make copies of things I tend to rely on often in a 'All Projects' folder with some subfolders if there are many for a particular project. Some vendors do not configure their instruments to find the samples automatically so I save monoliths or 'as patch' for the usual suspects as a matter of course.
