I am in the same boat from the no-brainer deal. I came from real analog hardware and this was the first soft synth that really changed my mind about that necessity. It is very unique. Eventually I needed more and went for the full version. Now we have the other excellent XILS synths as well.

I want a 'Tim Blake's soundbank It would be very cool if someone made a well-organized large 70s bank. I am always reluctant to get soundbanks because I usually understand up using 2 or 3 of a hundred, I wish someone would sit around with the Gong trilogy albums and just try and nail as much of that as they could.

Also, how compatable are the LE patches with the full version, are they totally different? I'm still not upgrading until I ca do it sans-dongle but it would be nice to k ow if the day does come I could use my old patches.

They have a forum at xils-lab.com where you can share patches. Not super active, but it's there. I don't know about compatibility- I know some patches are interchangeable and some aren't, but I really need to differ to Lotuza or someone else. I don't think they'll ever get rid of the dongle at this point. I'm fine with it, but I know others make a big deal out of it. I think if someone really knew how good the XILS synths were they'd just buy a dongle.

I got great joy out of inserting that simple little serial number. We'll see, maybe they'll make some other nice appetizers that don't require one. i have lots of options and already have lots of synths so it isn't a pressing necessity to give into the evil evil dongle! It may make the most sense for them but not necessarily for me. I just re-installed PolyKB II CM and it is nice but not pushing me to cave. For $20 I can can get the 'full' LE version and I think there is enough variety especially by altering and saving off version the presets that I would be fine passing up the whole dongle thing.

Preset/project compatibility : we tried to keep compatibility for presets and project when upgrading to the full version (the name is the same, so projects you did with the LE will load the full version, keeping your patch).

The contrary is not possible (a patch done with the full version doesn't work correctly with the LE). But you can easily adapt them : the problem is generally because the trig matrix is not set correctly.

Yeah, that's totally understandable and expected, thanks for your reply Xavier! Any chance of a Synthix LE/Player version in the future?

I am not going to get a dongle... but if there were a non dongle version of the full XILS3 I would get that one... Sound-wise I think it is my favorite of the three... some innovative features in the others as well and they are all good but the XILS3 and the modular nature is up my alley... This is one of the only synths with a dongle that makes me think for a second about getting it... maybe someday it will be dongle free!

The dongled version is only $20 at Sweetwater IMO it is wonderful regardless of being an LE version and whatever is missing won't be missed if you never have it.
