I did a piece of music for a soundtrack recently, a short film called The Smell Of The Smoke Hit Me First, its not released yet, but thought I'd share a couple of the tracks I made for it.
I had an ongoing back and forth with the director as the film was being made, trying to get a grasp on the tone he wanted for the film (the music is used at the end of the film, before and over the credits). So here are three tracks, the first is the one which was finally selected as the most fitting (and having seen the film its placement does work really nicely), and the other two are tracks I made whilst trying to get a grip on exactly what he wanted tonally.
They're only short, it would be nice to hear what people think of the chosen (more ambient, abstract) track and the two 'rejected' ones.

Thanks,
Jack

The first track, Hit Me First is the sort of thing that's hard for me to offer an opinion on because it needs a movie behind it.
Smoke on the other hand sounds really good even without a movie to back it up. Great track, great atmosphere. For some reason it made me think of the Mountain Goats. There are some really well placed guitar parts in this one.
The third track is also good, but for me it doesn't have the feel of the second.

Hit me first works for me even without anything visual.
Smoke (draft) is my favorite of the three. I like it very much.
Smoke, again (draft) I like but the high feedback is too much for me, at least with headphones.
Good stuff. Thank you.

Thanks, Smoke is definitely my favourite also, I was mildly disappointed that it wasn't chosen, though seeing the other one on the film, it does fit much better than smoke would have. I also agree that the third track is probably a bit lacking in comparison, though that track was more just a note I made on the way I guess
Ha! Mountain goats? Thats a new one...
I also did a full (10 minute) soundtrack for a documentary about a birdwatcher around the same time, that I'm fairly excited for people to see, but I'll wait until its up online before I share anything from that.
Thanks again,
Jack
