Looking for opinions here. Is the IK Multimedia Amplitube Fender Amp worth the $225 vs amps like Scuffham or even Shred? Is the sound of the Amplitube Fender that much better? Or not?

This is the way to go IMO, as though I like the Fender bunch, I don't use all of them... or even many of them. You do get a lot and I like the rack verb and tape delay. The fuzzbox is nice to in a weird lo-fi kind of way.

S-Gear sounds just as good, but it's missing things like stomp boxes and tempo sync.

Definitely check out the AmpliTube Custom Shop, tons of great options that you can try for 48 hours before you even buy. Makes deciding a lot easier and you can get just the Fender gear models you want saving you some money too!

If you want to great ampsim get amplitube. If you want an amp that sounds like a Fender amp, buy a Fender amp.

I like AT Fender amps a lot. The Twin, Bassman, Deluxe, Vibro, the Champ, Princeton (though not an actual part of the Fender package itself)...

All worth owning IMO. The rack effects are good too.

Definitely demo the stuff yourself. But since you asked for opinions:

Amplitube Fender is one of my favorite amp sims behind Amplitube 3. Fender really pushed IK to get authentic sound from the plug-in and it shows. I made my guitar friend a believer when we didn't have room in the car for two amps and the Princeton wasn't getting the sound we wanted. The people who bought the CD are none the wiser and in fact asked how I got the sound for the guitar solo.

My little secret, that's how. Hehehehe. That secret is ATF's Twin Reverb model. The classic models all sound pretty good but that Twin Reverb is my favorite.

As for the modern sims, I'm not a huge fan of the Metalhead 500 model but apparently the real deal sucks anyway so I guess IK did a good job LOL. However the Bassman 300 is an awesome bass amp sim and I've used it on more than a handful of songs. I usually use Ampeg SVX but there's something cool about the 300.

Downloaded, installed and am now authorizing. It asks for my serial number and I was never sent one.

How do I get a serial for the free version. (That sounds weird-a serial number for a free version!

Check the My Products section of your User Area associated with the account you created.

It's not free in cost, just free in use. (and it's also an integrated
sales vehicle for their products, and testing environment for
potential customers, much more than just a 'free plugin'.

It takes massive organization to keep
thousands of multi-product accounts organized, in such a way as to avoid chaos,
and enable both users, and the provider, to function efficiently, based on
knowledge. An account, and serial numbers, are pretty cheap price compared
to what is being offered.

Without giving up company secrets, are the Fender amp models built in to
the Fender Mustang Amps, based on Amplitube models, or the other-way-around?
A joint venture? The Mustangs are great value, with 12 amp models,
and also includes a 3-amp version of Amplitube

Just to get this right... Amplitube Fender was around before AT3, just as AT Metal and Ampeg SVX were.
IIRC they were Amplitube 2 derivatives, which were just taken over in AT3.

Close. Fender was the first product released that used code that would soon thereafter be included in AT3.

glokraw, AmpliTube Fender and the Fender Mustang are actually completely unrelated, aside from AmpliTube Fender LE being included with the amp.
