Its only just been released a few hours ago. No one has even got it yet, my guess based on previous tests is nobobbybland wrote:Does it offer any improvements for a daw vs. win 7?
But I will check it out and gladly be wrong.

Why do I feel so disappointed (and even a little surprised) that the Metro interface is still there? Was it really too much to hope that the whole thing was just an April Fools prank? And how the fcuk can the x86 build be 2.5 gig? It's not like it will bundle any of the drivers that I actually need.
Here's hoping that Windows 9 will be ok, otherwise me and a dogturd in a flaming bag will be hitching a ride to Redmond.

Initial tests are the same as I found before. DPC latency is 1000us, appalling. There is still no obvious way for first time users to get out of desktop. Startup time is fast, 8 seconds on my laptop with 5400 rpm hdd. I will keep at it but this is a dead duck for desktops. Tablet use only. Bring on Windows 9

For years people complained that Microsoft OSs where no good on touch screen devices.
Then they make an OS for touch devices and people complain that it's no good on the desktop.
Just like the way everyone used to complain about how insecure windows was and now it's got more security functionality they want to turn it off or bypass it.
Tough crowd huh?

7 will be my last MS OS if they continue down this path.
A minor scale is a major scale starting 3 half steps down from the major and visa versa. Any Chord has as many versions as it has notes.

All I want is better performance, 128bit or DX 12 until thats needed leave it alone. If they make Dx 12 Win 8 only I will go crazy.

Good points. Id just wish they had left the desktop alone. It would have been ok then. It seems theyve done it this way to force everything Metro. There are desktop addons like start8 which give it back to a degree. Time will tell.twisted-space wrote:For years people complained that Microsoft OSs where no good on touch screen devices.

I remember reading somewhere that we could keep the old desktop, which is behind Metro, anyway. Isn't that so?UltraJv wrote:Good points. Id just wish they had left the desktop alone. Well, for what I see, the problem will not be avoiding Metro, but keeping itUltraJv wrote:I still think this is relevant :

Anyway, how difficult can it be to hit F1? Or did they remove Help too?

It boots into Metro, no way to remove it now. Start menu etc is gone now so there is nothing to re enable. There are apps that do supply an entire Start orb and programs panel but they arnt good. It intially took 8 seconds to boot but that changed to 40 seconds for some reason. The power button makes laptop sleep no matter what the settings are. Im sure its ok for Tablets. Ive reloaded the Windows 7 image and await Windows 9
