Noooo!!! Don't stop with etc...! Please list all the ones you do like. I am aware of nlog pro, Sunrizer, Animoog, Alchemy, but not of Argon or Addictive...? What else? Please, list one's you don't like, and if you don't mind, why? Devon ---- Simple music philosophy - Those who can, make music. Those who can't, make excuses. Read my VST reviews at Traxmusic! |

It may be down to what type of musical style/genre people are working in. As a more of a guitar based person, I find Garageband my #1 goto app. It's not just that the smart instruments are so easy to use--they also sound GREAT. I also own Meteor, but I find myself bouncing from my ipad to my desktop for mixing, rather than Meteor. I just have way more tools at hand, that way. edit: I also haven't heard the Korg ims-20 mentioned yet. I much prefer it to the Animoog, for my purposes. I find the programming much more straight-forward, and the drum machine/sequencer is much superior to the Animoog's record function. Oh, and the sound is gritty and fat. I think you may be right. I'm a guitar person also, and there's nothing better available for guitar for iOS right now. It works really well, and sounds great. --Sean ---- C/R, dongles & other intrusive copy protection equals less-control & more-hassle for consumers. Company gone-can’t authorize. Limit to # of auths. Okay. I own none that I don' t like but I would never buy a synth that doesn't have some kind of recorder and wave transfer. List of synths I like in random order: 1. Alchemy 2. Animoog 3. Nlog Pro 4. Addictive 5. Sunrizer 6. GrainBender 7. Grain science 8. miniSynth Pro 9. Artic Keys 10. DXi 11. Crystal Synth 12. SynthX 13. Cassini 14. Electric Piano Synth These are just my stand alone synths. If I count in those, which is a part of a groovebox app, I would add iSyn Poly and the synths from SynthStation. Cheers |

Ok.... I'll bite...
First, in my original post I mentioned Geo synth. This has been replaced by the newly released Cantor, which is an upgrade in my book in terms of a Midi controller/instrument. Apps on my 'bottom shelf': Genome, MidiBridge, iTabla Pro Apps on my 'main page' that have not been dumped into folders (not in order of most imprtant): 1)Hokusai Audio editor (essential for export and cleanup functions) 2)Nanostudio 3)BeatMaker2 4)Nlog Pro 5)TC-11 (keep wanting to play with it despite intimidation and other factors) 6)Animoog 7)Addictive synth 8)Sunrizer 9)iMS-20 10)Grain Science 11)Arctic keys 12)Soundprism Pro 13)SampleWiz 14)Cantor 15)Thumbjam 16)Bassline Folders: Utilities, Instruments, Sequencers, Processors, Guitar, and Music toys (More on these when I have time..) Though quickly, since guitar apps being discsussed - my favorite guitar utility app is Guitar Toolkit. The only guitar tuner I have used, which is entirely satisfactory is GuiTune. |

Awesome, but not mentioned yet that I can see:
Sampletank (with expansions) - absolutely removes any need for taking a workstation or sound module gigging, some issues with some iffy samples (organ samples have unpleasant artefacts, mellotron samples are just annoyingly bad), but very usable on he whole Loopy HD - one of the best real time sampler/loopers on any platform Moog Filtatron - brilliant for lo-fi Boards of Canada warmth and warping Bloom HD - and relax Not a noise maker, but massively handy is Cleartune, a really nice chromatic tuner And some +1s: Animoog (if you only buy one iPad music app etc.) Thumbjam Nanostudio Alchemy iMS20 GarageBand (smart strings brings a big smile) IKaoscillator Some slightly hit and miss ones: Jasuto pro, modular synth let down by cryptic interface M3000HD - really good mellotron sounds but NO MIDI?! Much better than Sampetank for authentic tron goodness SynthX - good raw sound let down by limited programming options Only one I'd say steer clear of: MorphWiz (interesting playing interface but sounds like cock) |

Count me in as one who likes GarageBand. I was using it live earlier this year and was surprised when several people commented on how they liked my new sounds. People picked up that I was even using new sounds. I stopped using it after I got my Yamaha XS-Rack, but would like to start using GB again. The problem I have with it is that it seems to be OMNI only rather than responding to a specific MIDI channel. I would like to control the Yamaha and GB separately.
My favorites (no order and probably forgot some): GarageBand Alchemy Mobile Nanostudio Korg iMS-20 Addictive Synth (I'm finding this good for pads) Animoog Sunrizer Rebirth (for creating drum patterns) Rhythm Studio DM-1 Drum Machine SampleTank (great for practicing piano) Little MIDI - Kind of fun for creating old style sequences |

Moog Filtatron- can anyone comment more on this. It intrigues me and would like to use it for my Yamaha CP-30 digital piano. ---- ʝλ√λʝ |

---I have several that I really like but the one I use the most? The BS-16i....
Now that I've gotten into soundfonts and have started buying the Ensoniq and Emyu libraries I am in love again! I love GB and if I can integrate the soundfonts into this I will be one happy camper... |

What is your app path? In other words, what are you using for sequencing and recording within the iOS realm? I have been wanting to do exactly the same thing. I've been working on FLStudio Mobile and trying to convert soundfonts, but in my opinion, FLStudio is just not ready for prime time on that front--no looping supported, samples mapping wrong, etc., etc... --Sean ---- C/R, dongles & other intrusive copy protection equals less-control & more-hassle for consumers. I have it but have never used it to process an external audio stream 'live' as I haven't got the means for running audio into my devices and out again via a cable. As soon as I take the plunge and grab an iOS audio interface I will probably use it for such a thing as it does sound good. I have the VST UAD Moog filter which has similar functions and does sound much better but I do like the sounds you can coax from it. It supports copy/paste from the recorder/sampler bit, so I can use it when 'faux-sequencing' in my iOS setup but its not what I call my ideal workflow. Currently I have been spending more time with live jamming setups and it won't work in that context but I'm hoping that something like Audiob.us will eventually make it all work however we want it to. I'd say if you can route the audio in and out then its certainly worth a look. Isn't it really cheap?? I'm sure I got it for 69p and its definitely worth the price of half a can of Red Bull I wouldn't call it an essential purchase for me though. My UAD Moog filter most definitely was. ---- No, that Glitch is meant to be there..... http://soundcloud.com/punisha http://www.myspace.com/punishadubs |

I'm going to have to check these out, because the vocal processors in Garageband are .....well, embarrasing. I'd like to see that area improved. Speaking of improved, What's up with Garageband making it so hard to import/export audio. I just bought a bunch of bundles for the Ampkit plug, and Ampkit supports transfers in/out of audio just fine, but Garageband makes me have to EMAIL out my audio, and then I have to import it into another app, and then copy/paste it back into Garageband.
