Synth with per-channel pitch bend?

Omg, that's so weird - when I looked in Cubase it showed a different channel per note. I'm going to have to do some more testing and will get back soon!

I don't *think* Reaper is doing anything to mash it, I might be wrong. It could be that in Cubase's event editor it still has channel values, but when you render it to a .mid it applies the channel filter setting.
Don't know, just guessing. Let us know what you see in Cubase. We went to a lot of trouble to add this feature, so we want to see it work for you!

I've verified that all events are on Channel 1. It's probably your MIDI filter setting for that track in Cubase. Set it to ALL and try it again.AdmiralQuality wrote:I was able to take a look at your MIDI just now in Reaper, and every event appears to be on Channel 1.present wrote:I gave up and used 6 instances of Synth1 in the end. If anyone can help me figure out why Poly-Ana and Imposcar aren't working as expected I'd appreciate it!
Again, make sure Cubase's channel filter is set to ALL instead of 1 for that track, and try it again.
And of course, your guitar controller has to be transmitting in MONO mode, not POLY mode where it puts everything on one channel. I assume that's not the issue as it's working for you with the multiple instance method.

Ok I finally found some time to try again. Checked in Cubase and the list editor definitely shows different channels. Are there any other settings apart from 'unison' I need to use to make this work?
Here's a screengrab of the same MIDI file I posted earlier, inside Cubase.

Ah- seems Cubase fixes all notes to channel 1 on export! Here's the Cubase 5 file, FWIW: http://www.mediafire.com/?6gxmb3791pq2c17
Cheers!

Right, that's what I assumed it was doing (as the .mid file you posted definitely is all on channel 1). Did you switch the track MIDI channel selector in Cubase from 1 to ALL?present wrote:Ok I finally found some time to try again. And in Poly-Ana, set POLYPHONY to either 1 or 2 voices, and POLY MODE to UNI(son). That should work.

Can't see a MIDI track selector in Cubase - but it definitely seems to be recording from multiple channels as you can see from the screenshot.
My problem is 'unison' mode, however much polyphony I give it, just plays monophonic!

That's because it's not receiving input on anything other than channel one. (Each MIDI channel gets one monophonic synth assigned to it. With either 1 or 2 voices each, depending on the Polyphony setting.present wrote:Can't see a MIDI track selector in Cubase - but it definitely seems to be recording from multiple channels as you can see from the screenshot.

I think you're not finding the MIDI channel selector/filter in Cubase. It's definitely there somewhere, and it's definitely set to 1 instead of ALL.
Can you post a screen-cap of your Cubase? Not sure what version you're using, so I'm not sure exactly where you should look for the track channel selector.

Unfortunately I don't have Cubase 5, so I can't describe where the control is. But it used to be right there on the MIDI track. Drop-down list. Shows channels "1" to "16" as well as "ALL".
"ALL" will let the MIDI play out on the original channels it was recorded on. Any other setting forces every event onto that channel number, which is what's happening when you export the .mid or route it to an instrument.
Can anybody with C5 explain in more detail where to find this control? It used to be plainly visible but I think they may have hidden it somewhere.

Ok, just had a thought it might be cos I'm using Instrument tracks instead of MIDI tracks in Cubase. Weird thing is I have exactly the same problem in Ableton, where I've definitely set it to 'ALL' MIDI channels in.
I'll try and test this out again tonight.

Maybe it does have something to do with "instrument tracks". Not sure offhand, I'm allergic to Cubase 5. In the old days you needed both a MIDI track and an instrument (in the rack, which also appears on a mixer channel). You'd route the MIDI track to the instrument.present wrote:Ok, just had a thought it might be cos I'm using Instrument tracks instead of MIDI tracks in Cubase. Here's a screencap of Cubase 4. The channel selector is right below the MIDI output (halfway down, left hand side). Says "1". You want to set yours to "ALL".

Alright, finally got it going!! Just need to have the same success with Ableton now. Yeah it's the 'instrument tracks' in Cubase causing the problem. Well at least we learnt something so far!

Oh good, Steinberg have hidden yet another formerly useful feature! Less is more!present wrote:Alright, finally got it going!! Just need to have the same success with Ableton now. Yeah it's the 'instrument tracks' in Cubase causing the problem. Well at least we learnt something so far!
Not sure offhand how you do it in Ableton, but I expect it's do-able. Really it should be the default to NOT mash the incoming channel numbers into something different.

Damn, seems its no-go in Ableton. It definitely says 'receive all' but it seems to be passing it onto the VST as just one channel
Too bad!

There must be a way. That seems to be a MIDI input configuration, but is there an output configuration?present wrote:Damn, seems its no-go in Ableton. It definitely says 'receive all' but it seems to be passing it onto the VST as just one channelToo bad!
I've asked about this in the hosts forum...
