Ok, so your songs done! All arranged perfectly. You've rendered down your VSTi tracks to WAV files.

Time to mix!

Whats your setup look like?

Whats on your sends/busses/returns?

Discuss!

The base setup for me is:

-Saturation model on each channel.
-EQ per channel as Required.
-Drum bus with SSL Compressor and TLA-100 Level Amp.
-Aux Channel with Reverb
-Aux Channel with compression and distortion mixed in at about 5-10%
-Sometimes I record the room on an aux channel. By that I mean I play the track with a mic setup in the room in then mix it back in.
-Tape Model on Aux or Master bus depending what i feel like.
-Master Channel has SSL Comp and TLA-100 Level amp.

This is just the begining though the rest of the setup is as required.

I have a range of Compressor, limiters, eq's, saturation models, distortions, and Tape models that may be used, depending on what I feel works. Some things may end up going to outboard gear.

I just added Waves NLS to the collection so that goes on every channel now.
Imperfection is beauty.

Normally I hate adds, but not at KVR, look at all the the toys I can get.

I get the sound right in the tracks first with DMG Audio Equick on some to cut bits out to let others shine through. Guitars & Drum Kit get their own Soundtoys Effects. I do heavy rock and paul Van Dyk type music, film type music. When Slate VTM comes out I will have Studer A800 tape emulation on each track and the Studer 827 on the master. I think thats how it will be used.

Drum track
Steven Slate Drums 4
Slate VCC
Soundtoys Decapitator
Soundtoys Devil-Loc Deluxe
Soundtoys Filterfreak 2

Master
Slate VCC to glue it together and warm it up.
Slate VTM will be on it soon - Studer 827 tape emulation
Slate FG-X to get it a little louder and add subtle compression

Sends
Soundtoys Plugs:-
Echoboy - delay
Echoboy - reverb
Decapitator - fatten it up more energy
Filterfreak 2 - for more bass
Devil-Loc Deluxe - adds bit of compression and crunchyness.

The same. I have several jelly, cracker crumb templates.

Track set up varies but the stereo buss almost always has the following:

VOS Baxter EQ
VOS Tessla Pro
ToneBoosters ReelBus

I sometimes switch the order of Tessla Pro & ReelBus.

Hey, so what is an Echoboy - Reverb?

Also, I'm interested - how are you using Devil-Loc Deluxe (great sounding)/Decapitator as sends?

Same...

Echoboy is a delay that can do all types of delay and mimic vintage gear and tape delay. It can do reverbs too but its not a true reverb simulation.

Decapitator uses a lot of CPU would prefair it not on the sends but thats the way it has to be.
