Cool. I've never tried that myself. Quote: batteries aren't great, don't last very long.
No they don't! Mind you I used to use my QY with 1300 rechargeable batteries, but I would imagine if I was to use 2300 or greater I'd get more mileage out of it. Quote: you can send out th epattern tracks on
1-8/9-16, and/or it can record full midi input on 16 separate tracks to the song tracks....so what happens when you write pattern tracks after that? Not sure I follow you. The song mode has 16 tracks and the pattern mode has 8 tracks. Midi? I hate it! |

midi has 16 channels per midi bus. qy has one midi bus.
don't like midi? yeah, you still need(?)to drive your synths via midi. qy is your friend for learning to love midi.. ok, so it sends out (midi) data on 8 channels in pattern mode: you can run 8 midi parts from that, and these can be 1-8, OR 9-16...great fun if you have a bunch of hardware channels to drive midi to. and the qy should also record all incoming midi cc too. so, then you have the song tracks, 16 of...the original qy20 had 4 pattern track and 4 song tracks, no poss' of confusion, but here...ok, so try it yourself: if the 16 song tracks = midi ch 1-16, WHY, when you have your pattern track C1 set to a Bass preset, does any conceivable corresponding SONG track just play the 1st preset, piano? (conceivable=bearing in mind 1-8/9-16, it could be(since it is the 5th pattern channel) midi ch #5, or midi ch #13...haha, i'm not trying to put you off midi...this is just yamaha weird sh#t. the 'neat' thing about 16 song sequencer tracks, is that you can play a midifile in over midi rather than importing a midifile to the memory, and it records all channel data at once. making the pattern tracks redun- dant....have i missed a parameter in the menus? the manual is unclear about this...only way to find out is to plug into a multitimbral module and see what up. you'd really be happy with a total of 16 channels, wouldn't you... and there is only one midi out port/bus. so some could be doubling up. ah, so you hate midi... try this...simple 1 track pattern, as long as you can (8bar?)...now go job>insert event>program change... put a prog change somewhere near the start of first half, and another program change around half way through...(er, different prog#s...) and now you voice will switch back and forth as the pattern plays...not that brilliant, but that is midi in a very basic form, doing it's thing, as are all those note length change, transpose etc functions. not extremely quick, doing it via qy, but that is hardware sequencing, and it does more than a msq700/mmt8/etc. i'd love to import one of those professional midifiles in there to see what happens(haha the midi you put in is the midi you get out...) |

oh, can't sell it to you then?
i just midi... midi... midi... one of the greatest things ever invented. mind you, i love all forms of sync and triggering. maybe not dcb though. or tapesync. that's what the qy did to me, see? i got to the atari and thought ee-ew.. ok, that's cool but..then i spent the rest of the time with it trying to get it to behave like a pattern sequencer... |

ha-HA...new QY midi trick for himalaya.
you can re-assign/turn off midi out channels in song mode with a preset XG sysex message; bit of a shag, as it must be sent each time you switch between pattern and song mode, but you just write it into an empty song and work from there. you can re-assign all your songmode track channels(or switch them off). |
