But this would be more work than fun! And the OSC should be for fun and recreation.

I am more interessted in the idea from V'ger. I do not want to buy a second DAW. Is there a reasonable freeware DAW available?

Photonic
Give Podium a try! I just downloaded the free version the other week, specifically for OSC, and I'm really impressed with it. I use Cubase 6 at the studio I work at, and that was fantastic for my previous OSC's, but I decided this month to try out a new DAW, so I can work on my entries at home. The only drawbacks I see on the free version are that you can only use one MIDI input device, and you only have one stereo input and output. So, maybe its not great for all-out studio multi-tracking, but for an OSC project, it's perfect! I did a quick test with several instances of Minimogue VA, some CPU-hungry VSTi's, and effects, and it seems very stable on Windows XP. Keep in mind that I'm using an older version of Minimogue VA I downloaded around 2010! If you like, I can let you know how it works as my project grows.

Thank you PWM !

I'll bet your system might be faster, but on my old Dell Inspiron 2000 laptop with XP, I just got up to 8 instances of Minimogue VA in Podium, all in realtime before the buffer went wonky, about right for the number of tracks I'll need. When I'm done sequencing, I'll try increasing the buffer size and add all my effects. Good Luck!

BIG ANOUNCE

Hi mates, i'm posting this message to let you know that June 21st Arturia will give away a free version of Arturia MiniMoog V, but only for that day, so set a reminder in your calendar.

I'm saying this because MAYBE, we could use it SOMEDAY for OSC.
Although that's not sure yet, but we don't want people losing this chance in case we use it for OSC.

Anyway i'm sending a private message to all usual participants of OSC. Of course i will miss some usual participants, and that's why i'm posting it here and in the OSC main thread too.

Arturia countdown for MiniMoog V

Don't miss it guys. ;)

(No, i'm not being payed by Arturia or something, hehe.)

Hope nobody minds, but I've had a bit of time on my hands recently and got yet another submission "ready". It's a lot more polished than the previous ones this month, due to being done entirely in Reaper. The ease with which you can send MIDI data from a single clip to multiple tracks somewhat astounds me. Anyway I suppose I could always spend all month on one or two tracks, but I have enough trouble with my creative processes as-is, without trying to add more constraints to them. :P

Anyway, I'm not stopping anybody else from stepping up. Glad to see a couple other contributors so far :hihi:

Track:
dwringer - up tempo

Reaper 4.22

VSTi Instances:
15x MiniMogue VA

Effects Used:
3x Smartelectronix Ambience reverb
4x ReaComp compressor
1x TAL Dub III delay
1x ParisEQ

Thanks Irion, this is very cool! I'll be sure to download it.

On their web site, they state:

Functions behind the front panel are not available but all sounds and features from the Minimoog V2.5 (a $229/219Eur product) are included. Just like the original Minimoog.

Does that mean the "extended mode" parameters will not be available? (Mod matrix, LFO, Arp, Effects.) I guess I would miss not having the mod matrix and the LFO (without having to lose OSC3), but especially given the price, I can live with that :D

Hi,

I had some [small amount of] free time to work on a track this month, but I'm having an issue where the Minimogue pitch shifts randomly. Has anyone experienced this and/or know the fix?

It happens with at least some presets, even while holding down a note... the entire patch gets shifted by some arbitrary amount. While continuing to play the patch remains shifted until it randomly shifts back.

I'm using Reaper 4.22, latest Minimogue (without oversampling).

Thanks - z'.

Hey, it's a Moog emulation after all, with all the analog pitch drift and all that. It's a feature, not a bug ;)

I'm also experiencing some random pitch shifts. I'm using the version prior to the last one (with the oversampling capability), but oversampling is off.

I'm using Sonar 7 as the host. Another issue I'm experiencing that Sonar crashes every time I exit Sonar or close a project when there is at least one Minimogue instance present. (Compared to the pitch shift, it's a more minor issue of course, since I can save the project.)

We're back on OSC:

Read all the gory details when we will have finished the track.

We hope there will be more contestants this month than there seem to be working without technical trouble.

Have a pleasant day

Cheers for the submissions so far :)

About the pitch change issue I don't know what that could be, hopefully Gunnar will chime in later.

Yes it seems that way, but one can always use external LFO's or simply automate in the DAW.

Hey Guys,

I'm also having some issues with Minimogue Luxus in EnergyXT1.41. Didn't yet try it in Cubase 5 because i like first to do my modular programming and loops in eXT :). Besides I can connect the outputs of several Minimogue instances to the audio inputs of ZynAddSubFX and use its FX with eXT   (btw, hope that ok with the contest, right? only using Zyn's reverb, echo and EQ)

But anyhow... it seems that some parameteres are shared between different instances of the synth. Say like.... I have a patch in instance 1, and load another instance of the synth, the sound in the first patch changes quite dramatically. Then I load up a .fxp saved patch back in the first instance (sound in first instance gets back to normal), and the sound in the second instance gets messed up. If I keep on continuing, I'll eventually crash the host. Also playing a note in one instance can have some interesting artifacts (high frequency.. interesting effects... they don't actually sound bad :P) to the sound in the second instance, and so on.

I'm not using oversampling. CPU meter is fine. I'm on WinXP 32bit, dual core, but eXT uses 1 core only.

Anyway, I managed to solve this, by making copies of the dll, and name them luxus1.dll, luxus2.dll... up to 16 so far :D
and make sure I don't have the same dll loaded twice at the same time.

Somebody also suggested having another vst between the host and the dll... I can recommend also EnergyXT, but even more than that, you can try to use the combination Legree and VSTHost, which I used to separate ZynAddSubFX from the host when I had GUI problems.

Cheers to everybody,
VDX

The CPU meter was now at 99%, and it stayed there even after clicking determinedly on the STOP button

I also experienced this, without having oversampling on. The CPU meter stayed at 99% and the sound was stuck and quite loud for my speakers!! My ASIO driver crashed I think... I had to forcibly close eXT, and reboot, as the driver went unavailable the second time I reopened the DAW

Yes of course. By the way, I like Zyn's calling it echo and not delay, a much more correct name in my opinion.

BTW, does anybody know any nice tutorial to help me make some nicer percussion sounds? I keep struggling to get a nice snare or a kick drum....

This is a very helpful bug report. What version did you use? There are quite a lot to choose from: The old version with link from KVR database, the latast official version from www.home.no/gunnare that is now saved in the stable SE 1.1. I did this after many bug reports in this thread. That version has no oversampling. I am guessing that you are using the standard MinimogueVA with oversampling that was available at the beginning of the month.

And the version with Andrew's new filter, that is saved in SE 1.2 beta and has oversampling. So oversampling version is still available on the download page as the MinimogueVA_TD version.

All the best
gunnare
