This one is from a dream I had. Well, the title is.

I still consider this to be a work in progress, so any suggestions will be heard. :)

Thanks for listening! :tu:

I like the tone, and how nearly hollow the drums are.

I think something that would really help it along is something to rear its head at the 2 or 3 minute mark that fills out the top end, either the filter opening on your pad, or a fizzy top line. Maybe a highpassed mellotron sound?

Ok I think it's working so far. I like the bass tone in particular!

I'd maybe work on the timbre progression a bit more as it's getting a bit old after 2-3 minutes. I'd either use a subtle automated filter over time or add in fresh layers of interest. It doesn't have to be much to be perceived.

Post

Other possibilities - you could maybe bring in a subtle ride cymbal later in the track. A 'tron would probably work (make sure you use a complementary sound), or a soft subtle reverbed synth lead that gradually emerges from the mix.

Post

Yes, I'd like to add another layer to it. I don't know if I want to go as far as adding a "lead", as I'd kinda like to keep in in the ambient-ish genre.

The bass sound is a tweaked preset from Steinberg's Retrologue. The pad is from Padshop. The percussion is from Superior Drummer's The Metal Foundry with a little VRoom added in.

nice ambient backing track, maybe a buildup of some kind, and a catchy little melody that comes in and out? flute or EP? maybe even just arpped. this has potential!

Maybe I'll break out Viper or Zebra to add a little something to this track this week.

The only problem with Viper is that Cubase doesn't remember settings for it. :(

I like the synth sounds in this a lot. If it's still a work in progress, maybe consider varying the snare part. Or bringing it down in volume? I'm not sure. Something about the drums doesn't sit right for me. Anyway, I enjoyed it as it is, so thanks.

this is sounding really nice - it has a lovely warmth to it.

as said, it definitely needs something new around 2/3 minutes - in my head i was hearing some distant vocal ambience or a speech slowly ramping up in intensity towards the end.

great work.

neil.

Thanks for listening and your suggestions. :)

I'm sorry it took so long to reply. My power was off for two days.

I'm still trying to decide what I want to do with this. I may change the pad a bit to fit better with the percussion. They go off-time toward the middle and end. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. :|

I was listening to this on my computer speakers and I can hardly hear the bass drum and the snare very is faint, so I'm not sure quite what to do with them. I don't have any monitor speakers. I have to mix on my KRK KNS-8400s for now.
