I love Live too, but 8 Lite has had no love for my computer :-( hopefully when I get a new machine I'll be able to use it again. I second the good usefulness as a scratchpad for guitar based composing, being able to create a bunch of riffs and figure out an arrangement was wonderful when I owned Live 5. It is not just for standard electronic music definitely!

I hate Live, but it loves me. Can't do anything about it.
Wonder whether my advice worth a penny? Check my music at Soundcloud and decide for yourself.

What doesn't work? I Was away to buy live, but really need pdc to work with my powercores
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

i know a lot of people, that struggle switching from cubase to live..including myself, somehow for me live fails on simple things, like midi and audio editing :/

I love Live also but I could not survive with only Live as my sole lover. So its more like my Mistress whilst I did get wed to pro tools, Live is better in bed

Live would be great if it had a decent midi editor and the ability to record live automation in the session view - without that I have no use for it with plugins as I always record what I play Live and never create automation separately from my playing, although it's usable for playing with sampled clips in a less linear way. It's ironic that an app called Live can't actually record live playing fully in its flagship mode. If Live 9 had these features I would probably buy it again, for now I'm content with Intro.

Love the Sampler! I can spend the whole day on it and create entire tracks with it alone. And the racks are just awesome.
The piano roll needs better line divisions, makes me dizzy..... force me to finish the work in S1

It can. You have to record into the arrange view ... also someone recently released an effects rack that lets you record automation in the session view. I'll try to find it later ...

Which is what I was saying. No point in doing it in arrange when I have other sequencers that can do the same - what is different in Live is the session view.

That might be useful although I'm guessing it's a M4L thing

Yeah, there are 2 of them ... both M4L devices.

Midi Rack Hijack
ClipAutomation

I also found this video about automating clips without M4L, but it's in German.

Ableton Live would be great if it actually gave me any benefit to using it over Logic... but it doesn't because I don't need it any of it's "live" functions such as session view considering I do everything live with Traktor. Ableton Live will never be a solution that offers on-the-fly DJing, eg. NOT planning your set ahead of time.

If you're using a sequencer just for production, storing midi files or audio files on tracks for auditioning later is the same exact thing. Absolutely no use for Live here. I'm happy to do all production in one sequencer, no need for two sequencers or more messing up workflow.

I got Live over the weekend during the sale they were doing and I love it also. I agree with many who say its a great sketch pad and creative app. I am not enjoying mixing stuff with it. I am going to figure out to send stems from it and then likely mix in Sonar X1 or do so in Reason 6.5
