I have a firewire audiophille soundcard and it behaves weird.. it stops working apparently random and i have to restart the pc to make it work again (hp notebook, win7 x64, ricoh 1394 ohci compliant controller, latest drivers).

I've set the priority to background services (as advised by a focusrite page - to let firewire drivers directly access resources) but it still stops. Some days pass without this problem, sometimes - like today - it stops 2 times a day.

Does anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?
Thank you.

I had a similar problem but not with that interface. Turned out my firmware had to be wiped and reinstalled on the interface. Also had to replace my firewire AND had to get a PCIe firewire card with TI chipset because I also upgraded to Windows 7 64 from XP and after research realised there were compatibility issues with certain firewire cards and Windows 7 64

Now you have a notebook so it might not be the same case. Also check to see if your sample rate is randomly switching from 44.1 to 48k that was happening to me as well.

I would check firewire cable first of all. I had that kind of disturbance testing firewire just with a slight tension towards the wall and table. The sound came and went again - and I did not know what was going on.

So

1. Check that no tension in cable - connectors are really bad design
2. Get a really high quality cable - if any with interface they are usually cheapo.

Could be the Legacy Firewire driver problem. There is an article about having to make sure youre using this driver.

yup ^^ that too. You see I had a similar problem with my Studiolive and thought this was the issue but it turned out to be the firewire PCI card. Ended up getting the PCIe with TI Chipset and it did the trick. This was an amazingly frustrating situation and I can totally relate. NO ONE at Presonus had the answer. Took me weeks of googling swapping out cables etc.

Thanks for your input, first thing was to change the cable, and now i installed the legacy drivers. So far no probs, and i hope i won't have to get a TI firewire card.
