Indeed, there is no issue excepted time, sample pool and browser are of course planned.
However I don't understand why you would have to freeze the track. These samples are shared and anybody on the project can hear them. Can't you just leave all the samples on the track?

Sample pool, Excellent! Looking forward to that.
I was only thinking about the freezing part in case someone else doesn't have the sampler you have, they couldn't play the samples and would have to cut them up from audio to use in their sampler. THe freezing would just allow them to see which samples fall where on the timeline. But I'm not sure how you guys will incorporate the sample sharing and how everyone can use and edit the sequence of the samples easily.

An welcome release : fix big deconnexion issues for everyone but especially for non latin character countries, big layout improvements, new collab features.

After using Ohmsutdio for some time, I'm really liking the idea of it and using it, but there are a couple things that are hindering collaboration stoppers for me and my buddy. First of all, it is tough when someone else renders audio for you to hear (when I don't have their softsynth) and the Midi is not present on the track for me (only the other person). This forces me to chat him to please record a midi file and then send me the file. Much more time consuming and not fun. Second, it would be nice to cut and paste the rendered audio, be able to move it around. Currently the workaround that we have is to record the rendered tracks one track at a time onto audio tracks and then cut them up so that we can both compose the song and rearrange the segments to show the other what direction someone is thinking of taking the song. I don't care for the fact that you have to exit the project to hear the rendered audio or for it to show up, but it hasn't been a hugh deal yet to get around (though I could see that it might start to be).
I'm liking Ohmstudio, but these things are making things tougher to deal with while collaborating.
I should also say, for those that haven't tried Ohmstudio, you should because it's fun. It's very cool to sit back in the comfort of your own home and collaborate with others over the internet like this.

Just duplicate the track on a vsti track you actually own, and you'll see the notes (and hear them if their in your vsti range). We made things this way so it remains visually obvious that you can't do some edits on those tracks that you could actually hear.stikygum wrote:First of all, it is tough when someone else renders audio for you to hear (when I don't have their softsynth) and the Midi is not present on the track for me (only the other person). Sure, but what to do with the corresponding MIDI track on the other side ? Unfortunately cutting and moving it in the same way may not sound the same (ie : legato). That being said I know it's on the table : maybe providing a faster way in the UI to bounce a track & reimport it.Second, it would be nice to cut and paste the rendered audio, be able to move it around. Thank you for the nice conclusion =)

And... there we go.

Big annoucement : future of beta, pricing, pre order and an extensive FAQ ("will you ever delet my projects", that sort of things). Any questions, I'll be around !
And because this has been a long week, here is a cool track made in the same time by Aboatman & Desktroll that keeped us kicking in the process :

I tried it on my own today (ie no collaboration, as I am not very interested in that for now)...
Impressions:
- Seems to have a nice workflow that I like
- easy to get a tone on it
- Some (beta?) problems with some things (eg sequencer resize with ctl+mouse, at least following the tutorial)
- light on (specially MIDI) editing options (compared to S1)
Questions:
- How are updates handled ? (small and frequent, or big and spaced)
- Paid updates ?
- Will it get more built in/standard instruments (no drums !!!!!!!!!!
) and fx ? (this is actually one of my main request for any DAW, much more if I ever intend on collabs)
- If a friend of mine gets a free account can (s)he collaborate with me on a full project ?
- How fast will this improve on MIDI tools ?
- internet speeds requirements ?
- will it ever get a browser version on any way of working on other OS ? (Linux, or mobile/tablets OS, this last one on mid long term)
Overall:
+ Seems to have lots of potential
+ good workflow
+ it may get me doing stuff with other people
+ very tempting pre order offer
+ I like the idea of having stuff safe in the cloud
- online only (that mean that sometimes I cant use it)
- Still very light/simple as a sequencer and tools...

For now it's roughly 3 a month but we may switch to one a month (KvR don't want to post news on the small ones apparently). We don't have a defined policy on this so any feedback is welcomed.pc999 wrote: - How are updates handled ? (small and frequent, or big and spaced)

Free updates forever.
Although we may decide to go for one of the missing basics, we much prefer make a pack of recommended / tested with OS quality freebies rather than spend time to dev this. There only is one collaborative sequencer. Everything we do to improve it, we're the only ones who can.- Will it get more built in/standard instruments (no drums !!!!!!!!!!) and fx ? (this is actually one of my main request for any DAW, much more if I ever intend on collabs)
- If a friend of mine gets a free account can (s)he collaborate with me on a full project ?
Of course. That's typically what we want to see happen actually
MIDI is quite the priority, especially : dealing with Midi channels, Velocity line, drum sequencing, better control of MIDI automations, Midi outputs, Midi export. Some in this list are fast thing that will hopefully happen pretty soon, but some other are more complicated. For those ones, the more people go for the preorder, the higher the chances to hire and fasten things up.- How fast will this improve on MIDI tools ?
- internet speeds requirements ?
In theory, none. But you have to get a stable enough connection : constant timeout will make it unusable. Unfortunately IP rarely speak about this in their package.
You may not have the same but companions software would certainly be cool (like use your iPhone to add a track on a project). But that's just ideas now, and typically the amount of preorder will make a big diff in how much initiative we can take.will it ever get a browser version on any way of working on other OS ? (Linux, or mobile/tablets OS, this last one on mid long term)
Actually it looks simple and while it can't beat yet other top sequencers in term of feature lists, there's already a lot of power that's hidden behing the visual simplicity we strives to achieve. The way to deal with automation (as much pattern as you want, corelated or not, use of break points, all the way to do multiple selection) is actually pretty powerful. You also have a full featured free routing that gives you a lot of control for very advanced mix technics. It handles multicore well, too. Our philosophy is strength in the basics, the thing you do 90% of the time.- Still very light/simple as a sequencer and tools...
Also it's important to note that the possibility of any other DAW to compete with OS on collaborative features is highly unlikely : they'd most probably had to redo the entire thing from scratch.

How does it work if the person you are collaborating with has different plugins than yourself, or even different versions of the same? Can each person see what the other person has so they can ensure compatibility?

They have release the pre-order price which for me is pretty expensive.
€39 for preorder, and €54 after launch. And it's only for 6 month subscription.
€150 for lifetime subscription(this one is reasonable)

You can see that, of course, but the typical way of dealing with it is the collaborative freeze. Each time you feel it would be relevant to hear the latest version of your track (or if you want to save CPU, BTW), you hit the snowflakes. Frozen version is shared and others can hear it.aMUSEd wrote:How does it work if the person you are collaborating with has different plugins than yourself, or even different versions of the same? About extra plugins : Orange updated me and it seems there will be some, once Firesledge will consider OSC to be enough consolidated.
