@kryptonaut: You mentioned 80's Hawkwind... I've actually only heard their early 70's stuff - after I got the XILS3 synth I was looking for VCS3 examples and found Space Ritual. Funny thing is that led me to a solo Robert Calvert album called 'Captain Lockheed & The Starfighters'. I became slightly obsessed with that album and listened to it over and over for a while. When you mentioned Hawkwind I realized that that Robert Calvert album probably influenced my track in a big way, though subconsciously. Very perceptive! I'm kicking myself now for not using XILS3 on my song... would have fit in nicely.
Great narration on your track by the way - just perfect.

Incredible songs so far - really great stuff! As I listen through the tracks I find myself liking best whichever one I'm listening to at the moment. Voting will be tough!

jerru - all the guitar parts are excellent as is the arrangement, everything works really well. the only minor flaw is the vocal delivery that is a little unconfident in places, but nevertheless it's a very good song with a strong catchy chorus.

nikp2000 - I really like the twangy guitar lead and love the switch to the 4 chord sequence part. shame the drums are a bit too mechanical and a little more variation in the organ backing would have been nice, but its a warm and summery tune.

doc jon - this could easily have been too sugary (particularly reading the lyrics before listening), but there's something nonchalant about the tone of the vocal delivery which transforms it from being an overly commercial and straightforward track. A well produced pop song , hmmm, perhaps parts of the melody sound a tad familiar/obvious.

beanpole - I think double-tracking the vocals throughout is a bit overkill. Less is more, I would have gone single for the verses. drums are rather too machine-like and with the banjo playing the same arpeggio rhythm being to end there's a lack of dynamics in the arrangement. The lyrics have a good narrative.

nahkaorava - I like this jazzy atmospheric slow groove. the interplay between the bass and flute lines in the first half is very good - very Weather Report in flavour. Shame the flute sound isn't the most convincing sample library.

I must say I've always admired those who have put their voice 'out there' for all to hear and comment on, so I've been keen to have a go for a while now

Thanks for your kind comments! As to the familiarity of the melody, no idea, but I suspect I've subconsciously plagiarised something!!

Regarding oddbod's comments on the vox level - yeh, I originally had the vox higher, but wanted them to blend in and act as more of an instrument than be the focus. Point taken, though

Jerru: simply beautiful and strong; great catchy chorus. topjob.

nikP2000: a pit seasick and sweet noises from some gretsch. liketz.

Doc Jon: pleasing floater à la Bruce Johnston. nice.

beanpole: almost too obvious, but then comes the bridge ... and hein? what was that? not sure about it, but solid stuff.

nahkaorava: clusteriflusperi ECM informed, a bit less perfect, but very atmospheric and the piano lead isn't bad at all. a big:yessiryoucanjazzonkeyboard.

GMoneh: sounds drunk and happy. Strum Acoustic wasn't the best choice. ear pleaser anyway. a good one.

Patrick9: the mix is more than mellostrange, the song and the voice are top notch. Bravo! Wonderful.

Laguna Rising: a thoughtful and contemplative track first and then comes the routine Camel like prog synth solo over rhythmic progression. biased.

Papatomany: thoughtful too and not always successful. the short forte notes in the second half distract. nice anyway.

Barnadine: beautiful song from the simplifectionist. airy perfection.

robojam: plusperforclusterpligusterflabtusperrusper. love it.

me109: vertigol american vandykicle. a lot of work and a proper result. i'm as clueless as ever, when i listen to Parks'likes,and i couldn't say, if i liked it.

many goodies, some biasicles and nothing too bad

I like how Miltz's photo is acting like a sort of Rorschach test. I just listened to a few off the first page, and some see bats where others see butterflies. Nice.
