UAD LA3A. Easy to set, beautiful sound.

As everyone has already said, LA-2A type compressors work well. And there's also a free plug-in called LoudMax that works pretty darn well. You just slap it on and bring the slider down unless you've smashed the bass to death LOL.

Other than whats said - an EQ that that astound me is Waves VEQ3(I think $60 or so).
What you can bring even to a naked lined bass with that is really nice. Warm and nice distortion or anything you like.

Hey lfm, the V-series seem to not get much love, However since I got them as part of the Studio Classics collection with the API and SSL 4000 plug-ins I use the V-series often also, Well I use all that came in the collectionlfm wrote:Other than whats said - an EQ that that astound me is Waves VEQ3(I think $60 or so).

The only two other plug-in which I totally forgot about when mentioning what I use on Bass often is Softube's Valley People Dynamite, It is really useful for shaping stuff, By the sounds of the Klanghelm DC8C that could be a killer team. Anyone used the two together out of curiosity? I am sold on the DC8C for the money already btw, Cheers all
The other is good old Focusrite LiquidMix but not so much of recent for whatever reason, It is just not always suitable for the task(s) I guess. Bit gutted that Focusrite ditched it though

PSP Oldtimer and Klanghelm DC8C. More I do not need for any compression. Especially on Bass I take the DC8C more often. Or even the free Klanghelm one

Airwindows has this really nice Cab SVT amp cab emulator for free, sometimes is causes distortion on extreme settings, though. Anyway, speak of adding lots of low-end rumble...

My goto bass comps are the same as for everything else. It is program dependent and can change from song to song; there may be a compressor that brings the certain something out with its inherent audio voodoo. That said, as of now, this is my order of trial and error comps and a/b/c/d, then process of elimination from that point.
1 - UA 1176 rev a/ UA 1176 AE
2 - Arts Acoustic CL1
3 - DC8C
4 - Abbey Road RS124
5 - Vertigo VSC2
6 - Oxford dynamics
7 - PSP oldtimer
truth is, the UAD 1176 revA is my new best friend...just tops. It sounds organic & behaves most like hardware ~ much like the Arts Acoustic CL1 but with just a little less color - in a good way (if you can believe it). It is merely a matter of being able to use it along with the A800 on a UAD solo card - sheesh, I need a quad, not enough instances. Having said 'instance' issue is one which promotes the continued use of the comps which follow.
