Hey! Skipkent and eXode; the two people on kvr capable of settling a minor difference in a mature and friendly way. Look and learn people, look and learn.
Hah! That's just what I want him to think. In REALITY, my ninjas have been dispatched to impart justice and restore my good name. All in good time, eXode, all in good time...

Man.. if you could only see yourself, you might realize that you have become what you apparently are insinuating exists over in the Propellerhead User Forum.

Anyway, carry on..

I agree that Reason Pianos plays better than Radical Piano, but one thing about Radical Piano that tempts me is the sound of the piano hammers releasing. Though they should have provided user control over the hammer release sound. Also Radical Piano has some inspiring presets, but not $100 worth - still tempted though.

I think in the right context - a quiet composition where you can appreciate those nuances - Radical Piano is unbeatable and worth every penny of its asking price. But if you use it in a layered mix where drums, bass, keys, guitar - etc - are drowning it out, then it's value is much much less. Still worth it IMHO, but yeah.. Reason Pianos might be better suited to that.

I was interested in Radical Pianos myself because of the lure of physical modeling synthesis. I already have PianoTeq for the "proper piano sound," but I love the idea of acoustic sounds that are unique. So hearing people talk about Radical Piano has been interesting. It sounds like I might find it possibly interesting but, as a poor guy, the price puts me off. What do you folks think of Radical Piano for unique sound design? Is it flexible enough or just a box of tweakable presets?

And I've found this thread amusing enough

Heh - its bound to get more amusing, believe me! :D

Radical Piano is perfectly suited for unique sound design - the tracks I use it in are what you would consider "outside the box", typically - and it really shines. Just being able to hear the hammers move in a quit mix - its breathtaking. I'd recommend seeing for yourself though - you get a free 30-day trial assuming you have 6.5 or Essentials 1.5. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

It must be rubbing off. I think I have some on my shoe.

Any hoo, it looks like we're back on topic for a minute. Modeled piano is about as attractive to me as modeled guitar, but maybe there are some creative uses for that kind of thing.

At least the General forum has some mix of the general public to help squelch the flaming fanboyism that is the User forum. If I sound like I might be exaggerating a bit, you obviously either a) are a one-celled organism, or b) haven't had the pleasure of visiting the User forum.

But it does make for some form of entertainment.

Now, can we let this thread die a timely death? Please? Edit: Before we attract more Users over here.
If you don't read this thread anymore, it won't bother you anymore. Why do you care if others still post in it?

I considered it but I assume the 30 days is consecutive. I don't spend enough time on my music playtime to properly utilize any time limited demo unless it's counted by time in use.

And I'm afraid to like it, since I'm poor and have lots of toys already

Some time in the next 6 months I'll try it. Likely when the weather cools off and I'm not competing with air conditioning noise. Thanks for the feedback :-)

Are you not using the noise gate on the audio tracks in the mixer? I use a Line 6 HD 500 so I get the additional gate before Reason but really think the internal gate is solid.
That works fine but is pre-fx, so any 'high-gain' distorto nonsense I put together down the line using Reason fx has no effect on the gate. That's what I've found so far anyways, but I'm more than happy if someone can prove me mistaken in that regard.
In Reason, at the very top of an audio track or mix track in the big SSL Mixer there's a section called "INPUT". First you have the GAIN and INV. After that you have a "SIGNAL PATH" section. The first button is called "INSERT PRE" and what it does, when enabled, is that it turns "Insert Section Pre Dynamics and EQ" ON.

In other words. It puts the insert effects of that track before the dynamics and EQ. Sounds like what you're talking about, no? :)
HEY! Thanks eXode. Unbridled gui-tones in Reason are now under my complete control. I haven't been this happily wrong in a while!

One of these days I'm going to stop typing with my thumbs and reading manuals upside down.

:D  :D
I blame it on the size and tiny-ness of the SSL mixer (who can be arsed reading manuals anyway?). :D

So to add to my original two purchases I got the Softube FET compressor and Polar. I'm pretty impressed with both and in general hugely happy about the whole re thing. If it frees up a small company like Props from writing noisy things and concentrate on improving the sequencer side of things then all the better. I want the expertise of other developers who know their perticular field of sound programming inside out and I'm getting them so far for less than I would have paid for a vst. I'm waiting for a top notch reverb and some kind of eq (not in a series of dials format) to come out.

A little OT. Is PH really a small company anymore? In audio business I mean. They got like a gazillion dollars turnover and have a decent amount of workers. I don't think it's like in the old days when they were only a handfull of people doing Rebirth & Recycle.

Whew, I'm back! I was in Australia for work so I haven't been able to follow along with you guys here. :)

Now though, if anyone still has any specific questions about 6.5 or Rack Extensions, let me know and I'll answer them as best I can! Clarifications and official answers always help, I'm sure!

We are pretty small in terms of employees compared to many of our DAW-making friends, around ~50 or so but always growing. :)
