So finally had my computer shutting off and then found out it was probably because of all the dust I didn't know was in the case.

However bigger news is that running all my studio equipment inside my bedroom I must of blown a circuit cause nothing turns on anymore.

This sucks. Any ideas"? All my stuff was in my socket in the wall with 2 power protecters holding all the wires.

Is that over kill?

could be that you blew a fuse or tripped a breaker switch.. it is about too many heavy duty devices on one circuit - doesn't matter entirely how you plug them in.. i used to trip my surge suppressor in the winter with my heater..

first check at your power box - there may be a blown fuse or a breaker switch that has shut itself off.. it takes a lot more to burn an outlet out thankfully or we would have a lot more fires..

Have you tried plugging something simple like a desk lamp directly in to the suspect wall socket? Does it work?

That will tell you if the whole circuit has tripped, or just whatever you have plugged in to the socket. The latter obviously being much easier to fix ...

my dad gave me this device to plug into the sockets and it showed us only one light lit up which I guess meant those sockets are blown.

I think we gotta go get some new plates or something he said....

Check your fuses or circuit breakers. You most likely don't need to rewire anything, just move power cords around to different sockets after resetting the circuit.

Mind if I ask how old you are?

If it's not just a blown fuse/circuit breaker get a qualified electrician to look at it rather than attempting to DIY it...When I lived way out in the country once with some country folks what blew everything out was a field mouse that had gotten into the wiring and cooked itself

You never know what you might be dealing with...

It's a good idea to keep your circuits using under 1500 watts. You can figure the wattage your equipment uses usually, by reading the spec sheets online or the stamps on the devices/power supplies themselves. If I were you, to avoid it in the future, use two seperate circuits for the equipment to avoid this problem. If you have to use an extension cord outside the room, do it, it's the only way sometimes. For the home studio, it is good to seperate the computer and monitors on different circuits, as these are the usually the highest wattage devices.

If anyone has some tips in this regard, please do share.

of course a bad maintained system full of dust a weak heat sink which is maybe not well attached, probably a couple of missing fans can't work at all.

personally i wouldn't let it come to this situation but your mileage may vary.
