Hey !
im sure this question has been answered dozens of times and its usually not a problem for me in cubase to use a controler for program change but i struggle with that in live for any reason, i red in the manual but it doesnt really help.
scenario: i've put two presets so far in the midi program folder in zebra and gave them numbers, like 1.example 2.example..
then i set bank to 1 sub bank to none and program to 1 on the first clip and on the second clip to 2.

midi input is set to auto..but it doesn't work..is there anything i'm missing?
thx Mark

You're in the right spot to do a MIDI Program change in Live. Just a blank clip with program changes like your scenario works for me, Bank 1 / Sub-Bank None / Program 1 or similar.
One trick is reloading Zebra ...
Why? Zebra doesn't go the hard disk like selecting a patch in the browser when using MIDI Programs. Instead it references a MIDI Program bank in RAM. This bank in RAM is loaded on initialization and reloaded on some events (I forget exactly how to trigger this reload
It's somewhere in between a GUI close & open, and removing every instance of Zebra and reloading. It might even be a little different with different conditions for OS, host, plug-in format, dunno).
Outside of that,

No more ideas but I'll link a set that works here: https://www.box.com/s/ef906cc170df63211f5c
It's just blank clips, the number corresponds to the prefix added by Zebra in the info display when a MIDI Program preset is loaded.
[e] It's Live 8.3.2, OS X, there's no Zebra but I can load the AU version and it'll load MIDI programs.

This question comes up regularly, like, once a quarter, and always related to Live. There must be an answer in the Live user manual. I would think.

Ok yea..it works now..thx Andrew!
It was actualy that thing with reloading. I thought you just mean close zebra and reopen it but one actualy has to delete it from the channel and then "reload" it on to the channel.
@Urs there seems to be a little issue regarding live, would you agree? Is there anything you can imagine to solve that?
cheers guys!

Better documentation, better user interface, better way of doing it - I'm not a Live user, so I wouldn't know. That problem doesn't seem to appear that often in other hosts.Suloo wrote:Ok yea..it works now..thx Andrew!

I have the same issue. Zebra is useless to me without the ability to change patches via program changes in clips. It is not a problem with any other synths that I own. I will hold off on buying Zebra until this problem is fixed.

Program Change works as it should.
Best way to do it (imho) is to open your Explorer
-> goto Zebra2.data\Presets\Zebra2\MIDI Programs
-> put all your desired Presets into this folder/or in extra folders.
MIDI Programs (no extra folder) for your Pgm Change presets
The Clip configuration is
-> Bank 1 (MIDI Programs/no extra folder)
-> Sub ---
-> Pgm 1 (first preset)
one folder for your Pgm Change presets
-> Bank 2 (first Folder)
-> Sub ---
-> Pgm 1 (first preset)
two folders for your Pgm Change presets
-> Bank 3 (second Folder)
-> Sub ---
-> Pgm 1 (first preset)
three folders for your Pgm Change presets
-> Bank 4 (third Folder)
-> Sub ---
-> Pgm 1 (first preset)
You have to know that Live counts Midi Programs as BANK 1. (As Urs mentioned in another thread)
When you use Zebras preset browser to setup your Midi Programs you have to delete it from the midi track first and re-load it to changes take effect. Zebra caches the Pgm Changes (Midi.Bank.Cache.txt) first (as mentioned by xh3rv,thanks for the info)
I have tested this with all versions of Live 8-9 32/64 (lastest betas included).
I hope i could help.
Have fun!
Asta,
Ari

I see. We're on it to fix the issue with the manual that doesn't give all the information needed how to make it work. Sorry for that.aubford wrote:I have the same issue.
