Breakbot Vocoder

Hi,

recently I'm trying to figure out how to get a nice vocoded voice ... Daft Punk, Chromeo, Breakbot, etc. are the ones I listened to.

Now I'd like to know how Breakbot did the vocoded voice in "Make you Mine".
Cause I heard that he only uses Software (at least in his first productions). I do also know that he uses Reason and Ableton Live.



I often read that the carrier signal is the most important part of a vocoder setup.

By the way, I've got Ableton Live 8 with the vocoder effect and a MicroKORG.
But I'd prefer to use Ableton's vocoder effect, because it's got more bands.

edit: It's really not easy to tell to be honest (this is coming from a talkbox player), the higher notes make me think it is a talkbox but the way it sounds "synthy" at times, makes it sound vocoded. It could just be that he's playing a really cheap sound into a vocoder or layering it.

Well, at least I do now know that it is a talkbox instead of a vocoder ...
But how could I set this up, I've got no talkbox at home so I can't try it out, but I'm just totally in love with this sound ... Mh, maybe theres a workaround with a vocoder?

it's a vocoder. The trick is playing an expressive melody with the carrier to get the sung quality. it sounds at parts like he's using the entire backing track as the carrier. hope that helps.
