Thought i'd get the freecomp to try it out, but cannot authorise it for love nor money.

As much as I understand the need for good copy protection, C/R should at least work if it's the method you choose.

Everytime I try to Authorise automatically it crashes the license manager. So I do it through web browser, nothing happens, same with other computer.

Didn't have this hassle with Etch

Don't forget FET; it's still one of the best. It has such a life of it's own, you can hear how much effort was put into this plugin; no rush job or cut corners.

When shooting Black 76 and softube FET, I noticed the FET is more aggressive. Evidently, the softube guys modeled more stages. To me, the DCAM Channel can achieve a similar aggression when you put the bias a small bit counterclockwise; it's gives grit that I really like. Almost like a sag control; very cool. That's definitely a USP amongst 76 emus.

The Black 76 is really good when you just want the compression but none of the extra colouration. I know people see it as a bad thing IK didn't model every stage, but it does make it considerably different to competitors in that respect, and thats how I use it (seeing I have other 76 emus). IK nailed the compression response, and the transient handling is superb (as all IK stuff).

NI's 76 is really spikey; that pretty much goes for all those NI vintage compressors. Was really surprised considering how awesome the FET is. It definitely has the 76 vibe, it's just the transient handling is poor. Must be related to Guitar Rig's architecture, and I assume softube tried their best.

DCAM definitely holds it's own, is featured-up and has a USP. Plus it's priced quite nicely. The DCAM suite handles transients in it's own way, so it does have it's own sound. The better thing about DCAM is the bias; you can make it cleaner like the Black 76 or dial in a bit of grit like the FET. That's cool as...

We should definitely gets some audio up. What I will say is that there are only small differences between these emulations nowadays. Most developers seem to nail it, it's just their unique methods give us aesthetic variation. That's why it's difficult to have favourites. I simply rule out ones that have issues or obvious flaws e.g NI vintage comps.

I only have native stuff so the UAD is no-go...

Again, don't forget about McDSP for PT or AU only. I know that probably leaves a lot of you out, though. I agree the FET is good, but I've always had trouble with the Hi-Fi interface, same with their EQ pack. I will probably get the smaller bundle that includes those someday. I think I last passed on it for around $100, either used, on special, or both. Another good rundown though, thanks! You made me look up USP.

Thanks to audiosabre and evo2slo for those detailed answers! I'm excited to test out the DCAM ChanComp later today.

I have the Native Instruments VC 76 and would love suggestions on how to compare it to the DCAM ChanComp. I'm not ashamed to admit I really haven't figured out how to get the best out of the VC 76 yet.

Loaded up the DCAM ChanComp tonight on some drums, and it sure does seem easy to things to sound good with this compressor.

I also loaded up a NI VC 76 for comparison and I'm having a hard time getting my head around the dials and numbers?!? I was able to get the VC 76 to sound good, but definitely with more work.

Between the two I feel like I'm trying to convert English to Metric or something.

Etch eats 10% of my ASIO performance even when all its internal modules are disabled. (Latency 16 ms on dual core 2.2 Ghz CPU)

I have 8% on chaining 3 plugs:
Kore2.internalHarmonicShaper->IK.Pultec.EQ->IK.Black.76

What is it? Superb internal TransMod modulation system?

Geist, Etch, they are a must for my setup.. not having any issues with Etch here. Im looking at the new stuff from FXpansion and looking forward to owning them too. Im mostly interested in the Envelope shaper.. that looks cool indeed.
