Not reading this thread but the title, and now i AM pissed off at reason cause i no longer have ANY RE's installed that i have not bought.. and removed all demo ones using the authorizer, yet every launch i still get the "some licenses only available online" BS.. the amount of times i close and open reason, this is annoying me. Furthermore the default option is "log in" , not, "proceed without" so i just can't quickly press enter to continue loading.

Lastly, i am also pissed off that when i have logged in, my firewall asks for permission to the server precisely once every minute. So reason calls home every single minute. That's shitty. No excuse for that.

I have you Plugged in your ignition key, gone to the site, gone to your account and clicked on manage licenses? I should tell you. That your ignition key isn't sync'd up, sync it up, and then you should be good to go.

At least that's what the situation was for me. I just did this earlier today.

yeah as justin 3am said bit's because i have Re's in my account that are unexpired demos. I just have to wait.

of course i have key connected, i have even cleared preferences and caches.. i got excited for a second as after i cleared caches it said this computer needs correct licenses downloaded, it did it,

and then no message.

Launched reason once, quite, launched again, message back, cause it synced with my account.

trust me this is a props thing, not a ttoz thing.

No it is not you. Had the same problem yesterday. Here is the solution:

You have to go to C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Propellerhead Software\RackExtensions

and delete the larger of the two cache files. Worked for me. Remember to set your windows to show hidden files though or else you won't see it. If you are at win xp like me, the adress might vary but you can find it in your user folder with a little effort.

Not really pissed off @ Reason itself, but pissed off @ the props... They rushed into releasing half baked new feature (RE) and with a matching half baked pricing and policy and idiotic way of buying / installing the RE, without even as much as any proper instructions or information how to do it properly.
All the while introducing all sorts of bugs and problems and annoying things in it.
So it is all about $$$, well I guess it always is, nothing wrong and new there, but @ same time make sure you don't forget your customers and supporters and don't just try to sell something that hasn't been tested enough or full of little bugs and after so many people reporting and complaining - hardly any response or solution or one response given was: "it is not a priority right now", or introduce RE format (plugins) but no way to compensate the delay the introduce or other issues with them... and ironic and hypocritical putting sh!ts on other DAW's with instabilities and crashes with VST's when you have issues with your own proprietary ones.
All the big speeches about users wanting "more"... yes we want more.... and what more have you given us, more issues and problems???
It is 2012 and yet still no MIDI out, no MP3 support, no PDC, or perhaps the "more" meant more $$$ spent on things that you don't even have installation file for or even being able to re-sell or transfer... NO, thanks!

Let's look at VST vs. RE.

VST pros:

* most work in any vst host
* auto pdc
* enormous variety of plugins to suit various needs and tastes
* many developers and license policies
* many price points from free to crazy expensive
* variety of marketplaces, including direct, vendors, used
* mostly easy installation - drop a dll in the plugin folder, or run an exe and enter license info

VST cons:

* some plugins are unstable
* less flexibility/connectivity than desired, in some cases

RE pros:

* offers some variety to reason users
* more flexible connectivity, but only in reason

RE cons:

* only work in reason
* no auto pdc
* very little variety so far
* very few developers so far, all under a single license policy
* single market place, with no direct, vender, or used sales
* installation not as cut and dry as props claim

And on a personal level, the plugins that I would actually want in Reason aren't available - no drum sampler plugins, no guitar amp plugins, no MIDI utilities, no worthwhile character devices for mixing, no higher quality/functional rompler, and very little chance of seeing the plugins that I already use and like becoming available as RE, at least any time soon. I don't have years to wait around on Props to figure out where they are going, and as far as I can tell (no communication from them), that direction is 180 from where I'm at. For myself, the honeymoon with Reason is well over. I had fun playing around with the synths and samplers, but when it comes down to it, I don't make electronic dance music or electronic pop, and the Reason tools are geared for that. This is why Record failed with musicians who fall outside of electronic genres, and I think that Props still doesn't get that. Just look at the amp sim chosen by Props. It isn't a viable tool for guitarists. Try and use RDK to make a convincing drum track for non-electronic music. Try a rock mix with some grit to it and see what happens. And I submitted to using a dongle for this? For what, exactly? For a couple of soft-synths that I piddle around with once in a while?

So am I pissed at Reason? No. That's silly. I'm disappointed with the company developing Reason. There is a lot of potential going to waste there, for anyone who makes music based in guitar/bass/drums, and there is this stranglehold of control over Reason users from the company, via a closed environment, a closed off marketplace, dongles, internet sign-in, lack of communication, and corporate like marketing practices. These are the negative feelings that I have toward the company, not Reason itself.

I'm not a Reason customer. When I used Reason demo, I was so excited when RE was announced. Now I feel so confused about them.

I hope all of this will be sorted out eventually, and Props will achieve some level of truce with the doubtful customers. Would be a sad story if things remain like this from now on.

I don't see any difference between the product (reason) and the company (propellerhead), since it is not like Logic (Apple bought Emagic and changed policy) or Cubase (from Steinberg to Yamaha) or Protools (digidesign/avid). Propellerheads just did not listen to their fold loyal users, banning them because you called them "trolls". And that is the result: loads of fanboys, a pseudo-apple wannabe "cool" company, crashes, expensive yet limited and buggy pseudo-plugins, and an epic "antipiracy" fail (record discontinued despite no cracked versions out there: as I have always said, the best dongle is honesty). They did no listen to people like me, I remember well how they trusted and never banned fanboys like danoc in the PUF:

Is this thread still going? REs and 6.5 works like a dream on my system. No problems with licenses, crashes or forced login. Runs really well and have not experienced a single bug with any of the REs (except a GUI glitch on Re-Tron). It's all looking good on the Props user forum too, rarely any issue-related threads.
I also have to say that I strongly prefer REs over any other plugin format because of the rack integration, easy installation/purchase and modular connectivity.
This thread has become a parody of a vst vs Reason where lots of people who don't know sh*t about the program talks about how every Reason user is a fanboy and how it's completely inferior. It's just a damn audio software, some people like it some do not.

I have no choice? I often use Reason rewired to Live so yes I do have quite a few options. In Live I also prefer using the integrated instruments and effects from such developers as AAS and Softube. It's interesting that Ableton was never criticized for doing exactly the same thing years ago.
I also have Logic and Studio One, but for some insane reason (judging from this thread) I always come back to mainly using Reason cause I like the SSL mixer, drRex, pattern lanes, Redrum, Malstrøm, live sampling, the Echo, the modularity and the lack of floating windows. It's still an inspiring program after all these years and I never experience bugs or crashes. So to me that's a pretty good software.

I think it's mainly because they didn't spout a load of BS and negativity when they brought those out. They simply said, here's some extra instruments you can buy individually or as a bargain-price bundle (the "Suite").

Difference here is that Propellerhead have this incessant need to criticise how the rest of the world do it, implying both at the press launch and again in their promo videos that all VSTs are buggy rubbish that don't work properly and will probably crash your computer. Because they come out with their smear campaigns it causes two things:

1) people who know they are telling complete BS will probably react and say so, but this then polarises opinions, as we have seen here

2) users have unrealistically high expectations, which can lead to disappointment

With their integrated instruments Ableton simply never made this mistake.
