Vote for your Top 10 favorite compositions, in order (most-favorite = #1, proceed downward).

Voting ends on early a.m. (US Central Time), Wednesday, August 1.

No voting for yourself. Voters must have had 20 prior posts, or at least have participated in the contest this month.

Once you place your vote, you cannot change it, unless permission has been granted by the moderator.

In the case of equal scores after voting, entries will be separated by how many 10 pts (i.e., how many #1 votes) they got, then 9 pts and so on. (Thanks to OSC for this rule.)

You must participate in voting to win prizes!

Here are my votes.

Judging Criteria. If it sounded to me like it might have been made by aliens, it got points. If it sounded like it was made by someone who really loves to watch re-runs of Battlestar Galactica, then not so much. :-D Forgive my bluntness, I send it with love.

10 points evo2slo - evidence
my favorite, really embraced the theme!

9 points Kryptonaut - Contact
love it! you really thought about how an alien's anatomy might influence their music, very cool.

8 points
forw - earthling
groovy little tune, like a serenade to us… aliens trying to make music they think we would like….

7 points Irion - Origin of Harmony
That's what we need, a mind to midi converter!

6 points D.H.Miltz - The Ballad of Sector Six
Alien? not so much. Harry Partch? Yes, and he was very nearly an alien, so some points for you.

5 points adagiocm - 40 Light Years
What makes this for me is how great the aliens' modeling technology was back in the 70's! Imagine how kick-butt their synthesis must be now!

4 points Zombie Queen - Martian Wedding Song
This is terrible, and only the vocals really sound at all alien to me, but only in a Bootsy Collins in the 80's sort of way. Nonetheless I find myself enjoying it, and I love the description.

3 points BjornChapman - PlanetX
Some points for the first 14 seconds. The rest was terribly earthly. cool, but not very alien.

2 points jobromedia - Close Encounters
Apparently aliens like delay.

1 point mellotronaut - Jazz
this is not jazz.

1.Chasing Andromeda - In Command - that's the Stuff!! nice drums, synths, fx, bass, etc... who says that aliens don't make music, wich is similar to ours? they just try to understand the sentence with the spaceship^^

2.evo2slo - Evidence of inorganic Life - oh computer! xD and beatifull

3.Beanpole - Brad Pitt - nice message, but mostly the pink floyd like guitar and organ..

4.Irion Da Ronin - Origin of Harmony - Chiiiillll :) music came from outer space, now i see

5.Bjorn Chapman - PlanetX - haha, kinda sounds Alienlike, theres just no usable hamonies in there^^

6.offthewall - TheWarning - Sad but True...

7.Robojam - Surfing the cosmic Wind - ANALOG DRUMS :D and cool Synths

8.Patrick9 - Altarian Anthem - nice and slow and laid back :)

9.Peppy197 - Super Earth 9 - Nice Noises :D

10.Zombie Queen - Alien Folklore: Wedding Song - Simply: Humorous^^

That's my personal top10 (11) :D thanks for all this music!! made fun to hear all those different interpretations of alienish music :)

edit.: ugh, that's bad! sry for this.. that happens, when you don't read your posting again... I wrote for long time on this one whilst listening and deciding. i simply didn't realize anymore that there are not 11 but 10 ranks on my posting.

Such a variety of interpretations made voting difficult - I've tried to judge according to how 'alien' I felt a piece to be, subject to it still feeling musical, but those terms are fairly subjective and loosely defined. So:

1. Gorgorgathgorgorgor Unknown Transmission
2. jobromedia Close Encounter
3. bzur Whales of Enceladus
4. milkshakeiii Colab with Alien
5. Patrick9 Altairian Anthem
6. robojam Surfing the Cosmic Wind
7. IrionDaRonin Origin of Harmony
8. peppy197 Superearth 9
9. thedazed Alien Space Jam
10.jjbiener Winds of l'An-d'Eru

My 10 winners of alien abstract music, and some quick comments. It was hard, and i felt bad leaving out some of you. Sorry.
  • 1 JJBiener - Did someone watched Abbyss film? Precious. I want to see what JJBiener got in his mind with my own eyes.
2 jobromedia - Yes, it is just an arpeggio, but a beautiful mesmerizing one, very appropiated with the theme and a very original track.
3 bzur - Another kind of beautiful alien naturalist music which fits perfect with the theme in a musical way.
4 evo2slo - Great cinematic track and funny when everyone is singing at same time, loved it.
5 Patrick9 - Lovely textures and vibrating spacey choirs.
6 satYatunes - Nice morphing of sounds in an extraterrestrial soundwave.
7 D.H. Miltz - Interesting metalic and ceramic sounds. It fits very well with the theme.
8 peppy197 - More nice textures, this month is all about that.
9 Laguna Rising - Weirdness and nice alien textures.
10 kryptonaut - Haunting alien wind textures.
Honorable Mentions
Gorgorgath - The sub frequencies were shaking my body and making my brain sleeping, you are a genious and you know it. Another brainworms experiment from Dr. Knutson.
BjornChapman - I loved it so much, i like Dubstep and much more in the way you did, but i can't imagine aliens doing DubStep. Keep going on, you are doing perfectly.
Zombie Queen - Funny and weird in a good way. You made me smile, thanks.
AdagioCM - Jazzy but spacey. I preferred the second part in any case. Good job and welcome to Music Cafe.
Nikp2000 - Nice use of harmonica and banjo in a easy to listen track, that was you playing harmonica? Good job. The theremin line, i really enjoyed it too.
Hellfog - I really liked the mood of the track. The piano and the plucky textures.
ChasingAndromeda - Nice electronic track, jazzy moving bassline riffs. I can feel the compression, nice.

Everyone did a nice work, as usual. Sorry for not having more points.
I feel so bad when someone votes for me, and i can't do the same for them. Sorry in this case. I will try to vote for these in the near future (if i'm alive yet).
In any case, thanks for your listenings, comments and votes. Very grateful.

Have a good day and good luck everyone. :)
