Is this normal that cubase 6.5 crashes (actually hangs) when I remove accidently or not the usb licenser ?
This is on osx lion, mba, 32 or 64 bits.
Actually it was either retrologue or padshop pro (put it on the key) that were notifying the missing key, but whenever I try to put it back cubase just hangs and I have to make a force to quit and loosing my last changes.
Any one else experiencing this ?
Can't access the steniy forum, but have no problems login to mysteinberg, go figure ...

The Cubase dongle needs to be in fairly constant comunication with Cubase.
I have had similar issues if I make my laptop hibernate whilst Cubase is running.
Because the dongle doesn't initialise as if it's always been in place, Cubase hangs.
Hence, you need to close down Cubase before hibernating or removing the dongle.

Yup, I had my wallet drop down the back of my desk onto the e-licenser and this was enough for it to reset losing hours of work

Finally found a way to use cubase without the dongle on the mba 
Actually just using the remote desktop, which isn't too bad with an adhoc wifi connection. This is also boosting my mba as the server is a 6 core machine. Add a wireless heaphone and mic for a full wire/dongleless experience on the balcony

That's a great idea! I think I'm going to do almost the same with my old macbook and my macmini which I use for music production (my issue is that the macbook is too much slow for music production and I moved all apps to the mac mini, plus that my room is way too hot); but I will use an application to stream the audio over lan instead of buying a pair of wireless headphones.
I just found this application which uses soundflower and au netsend/netreceive:

You simply have to start soundfly receiver on the laptop and soundfly on your studio pc... then you'll have to change your soundcard settings in cubase so the audio goes to soundflower...
If you use a software which supports audio unit plugins, you just have to load the netsend plugin (which is what I'm doing right now with logic!)...

To be blunt, if a program crashes on me because the security device got wiggled, I'd be bonkers mad.

I'd seriously use this experience as a learning curve for saving way more often than once a day. Almost every musician I ever came across that regularly saves did so because they lost a major amount of work through not saving. Everyone has one mishap that loses stuff, whether that be a dongle wiggled, power outage, PC brainfart, cat walking across the keyboard etc. To have it happen a second time is stupidity.
I admit I still don't use autosave simply because I don't like it cutting in in the middle of a take or an important edit etc. But I basically click save (or save as an extra version) every time I do a major edit on midi or audio. I usually will have 4 to 5 different version per session each day. On average I probably save every 20 minutes when properly working at music. Made it a firm habit years ago and never looked back. With the best will in the world, a computer is going to glitch because of some unforeseen accident. Saving just once a day IMO is really asking for trouble...

Actually I think it's really dumm that it crashes when you remove the dongle.
I have my "studio" set up for a standing position and I like sometime to sit and work on the laptop on a desk inside or outsode.
Having to close and reopen cubase each time is a pain that I could live without.
Using the remote desktop and some extra gear does the trick.
I'm using cubase as it almost fits my needs (like live too) and mainly that afer 20 years with it I'm a bit too lazy switching host, but in my situation, if I had to start all over I would go dongleless for sure.
