I'm glad, in a sick way, to see I'm not the only one with crashes and bugs galore in Sonar.

I guess we all are considering this heat

I suppose this explains the recent X1 sales they had.. buy one get the higher one 'free'

probably get more people in higher tiers so they can then sell them the higher tier upgrade to X2 :hihi:

I've not experienced gapless playback on any version of Sonar, despite their claim of the "feature." That said, I've also experienced CPU spikes on Logic at the first play of the first note of a plugin synth's MIDI data. It's not every project file but several do it and I've read this is because Logic does not initialize the plugin until the first used note (???). It's fine after the first stuttering run through. So... What DAW doesn't have this problem?

Ive not experienced it in Reason, but that's only just recently become a DAW and I've not made a lot of prohects in it, nor Cubase, but I never made an actual project in it because I hated the GUI and menus (& dongle). Traction never gave me trouble either, but, again, I never made more than one project in it. It seems that any DAW I get familiar with enough to use on a continual basis will reveal fundamental flaws like unwarranted CPU spikes and assorted age-old buggery that's not been fixed despite users reporting it for years and years.

Is Sonar actually that much worse or is it familiarity breeding contempt? I always assumed my Sonar problems were fundamental architecture problems (the OS it's designed to run on). Admittedly, Sonar screams "features added without fixing existing features" and "no user experience will be the same" but that's what I associate to Windows in general.

Sonar glitched for me while others (Reaper and Live) worked without complaint. Granted, I always suspected that Cakewalk were using more of Microsoft's frameworks and were thus more sensitive to certain system-wide issues. But a lot of it seemed like bloat - even as people were complaining of audio stability, they were adding flashy new features to stay caught up with Cubase.

I wonder if this version will be 20-40% better

Is that how much higher the price is since Sonar 8.5? (I skipped x1)

Or is that the amount of extra bundled plugins?

And really, they just added convolution reverb in Sonar 8 or 8.5 and it has Sonitus and a couple older reverbs. Why did they add another third party reverb in X2? This company doesn't seem to know how to develop its own product because, aside from totally reskining the GUI (but not actually re-developing contents- the track view, notation view, piano roll or event list views- apparently) , it's always some third party addon they're showing off in new versions and a couple "should've been there already" features (like VST integration, again, back during version 7, & more recently, plugin swapping, that they sold as a freakin paid-for addon).

Actually, I think I'm getting more bitter the more I think about my history with Sonar.
