Hi!

I'm looking to make some cool sound effects such as these:

(the beginning where the sweep is and all that stuff, before audiofreq is said, almost like a robotic sound effect, I hope you get what I mean?) what do I need in order to make these type of sounds and how do I process them?

Answers appreciated.

anyone? I'd love to create similar effects as I really think those small sounds contribute alot in electronic music, they are really cool.

You really have to go for it. Bitcrush and use Glitch to cause stutter.

yep, those are great, got those..

but how do I actually achieve that effect? what effects and what sounds do I need to process etc?

You have to get in the right ballpark, then play.

I'd try things like bit-crushing, chorusing, flanging and phasing; Glitch will help you cut sounds up into crazy little chunks.

Don't be afraid to take a basic sound and MP3 encode it at really low bit-rate, as an effect; but expect to throw that source through a load of other effects afterwards.

I used to take little chunks out of tracks I was working on, then pull them into an audio editor (or another DAW track I guess) then smash them up with a load of FX, and save them as FX samples, either for the track I was writing at the time, or other tracks.

Try every combination you can of the effects people have been recommending in the thread; gradually you'll learn what combinations work, and you'll develop workflow for producing a huge library of mad noises.

I've tried most of this and I don't get it to sound the same.. it must be something that really does that it sounds "robotic" (not robotic as in small bits, but robotic in a nice, professional way), it is REALLY hard to make those sounds :/

To get to the point where you can not just analyze a sound but reconstruct it as well takes a lot of experience and knowledge. You wouldn't believe some of the FX chains that lie behind these sounds.
I know that's not of immediate help, but I would really begin experimenting and go from there, develop your ear and your skills.

And it's not like most of these sounds aren't happy accidents; more often than naught, it would be very hard for the artists themselves to reconstruct them (unless they're Richard Devine).

The sound you're talking about reminds me of the kind of spectral processing used in plugins like Spectron and Spectrumworx; maybe some comb filtering and/or vocoding, plus a tight, almost flangy reverb.

Turnado is also a great suggestion.

Try Aalto synth as a a source of uncertainty for unusual noises and process with fx as mentioned in the above posts

You've got a bunch of good tips and suggestions, take them into consideration and experiment. I don't think anyone can tell you the exact settings for every plugin and effect.
